The Canadian Motorcycle Association has today withdrawn the sanction for the Cape Breton TT Road Race, which was scheduled to take place from September 20 - 24 of this year.
Citing delays in necessary information being provided to the CMA as sanctioning body and to the insurer of the event, association General Manager Marilynn Bastedo expressed regret about the decision but stated that "such a major undertaking must be planned in a way that assures success at all levels, including and most importantly the security infrastructure. The deadlines for providing the information to us, and to the insurer, have not been met. There are now only a few months remaining and with the proposed race course snow covered for some of that time, the conclusion has been reached that the event is not viable at this time."
By the way for all you folks wondering what's up in the AMA, in Canada our sanctioning body has been run for over 20 years by a nutcase who treats road racing as cockroach that must be stamped out.
I just booked my time off work and registered for medical training update.
Better to find out now instead of a month before or closer. This was going to be out biggest, proudest motorcycle event in our history. Now it's just a weekend tarring and feathering event behind the 'ol fish shed.
Some more info on RACE please.
I'd like to keep a breast of this
RACE is a dedicated to road racing sanctioning body, something like WERA in the USA.
The "problem" being that the FIM will only deal with the official national sanctioning body for international races. Early days in WSB there was a Canadian leg but it was at a track that would make Loudon look safe and modern. When the riders expressed concerns about the state of the track the CMA told them there was no cash available (and then Marilynn rolled up in a Limo, but that's another story). End of WSB because all the decent tracks had signed off with RACE and CMA wouldn't entertain any other track except Mosport.
