repeat of a race beteween a brand-new V-Rod and a clapped out '82(?) GS1000 takes place ending in tears, then a tremendous race between two of the east's best racers, Mike Slowe vs. Jason Miller's NLR Turbo 'Busa. Both are running in the popular Pro Street, lightly-modded 60-inch (WB) class (no wheelie-bars, DOT "Street" tire)
Not to start any arguments, but a tuned GS1100 could easily wax a stock V-Rod. I haven't see the episode, but the GS could look haggard and old, that would only add to the wolf-in-sheep's-clothing aspect of it.
Stock, a GS1100EZ turned mid 11's. IIRC, 11.001 with Jay Gleason riding a stock bike back in the day.
I'm sure he enjoys the V-Rod as well. Won bikes ride the best so I'm told...
It was a GS1100E and the show was not fake. Those old Suzuki big engines are stout and run strong I know I have one in my garage with 42k miles on the clock, GS1000SZ Katana Sucker in the day would spin that 130 hoop all the way through 3rd in the 1/4 lets see any V-Rod do that
The guy on the GS weighed a ton but still out run the V-rod easily and the GS rider didn't even know how to launch right.
Ben Spies and Jamie Hacking taped an episode where they raced their cars, Spies in his BMW M3 versus Hacking in his WRX. Spies explained it all in RRW cribs, Hacking won the race and Spies kept his own car. Spies pointed out that the show is staged.
Why do they use a drag strip and no christmas tree? Simulated street racing, get real.
Why would anybody risk losing a car they have $25-50K tied up in it, why not race for cash instead like they do on the street?

How are you gonna use the christmas tree if you give one guy 12 car lengths? I thought the show was cool because it's often won and lost in the negotiations, not in a straight up race.

Because they'd have to change the name of the show to "Cash".
I don't know how legit it is. I figured both parties get some sort of appearance fee to offset the potential loss or their vehicle. Or something?
i e-mailed them last month. i want to run the 926 against my bud Dr. Daves 7for9. i'll stomp his ass or blow it up trying. i was hoping they'd bite on it since it's a 16 yr old bike against a new one but i have not heard from them.
i doubt i could act all G though like most of the guys do and keep a straight face.
it is somewhat entertaining to watch. it breaks up the constant stream of NASCRAP at least.

My first streetbike was an '82 GS1100E, just like what he was riding. While heavy with a skinny back tire, it had a great clutch and tons of torque for a four. The chassis is horrible compared to a new bike, but the engine is still gold.
I thought he didn't know how to launch it from the video either. The mouthy Harley guy was actually doing a better job, but didn't have the equipment.
I sort of regret selling my old Suzuki. The Hayabusa has finally replaced it as the dragbike of choice, but aftermarket companies like Cope racing or APE make tons of parts for the GS, it would be the ultimate sleeper bike.

You can stagger the tree to start one lane ahead of the other just like they do in bracket et racing.

On a side note the Jason is a friend of mine, he dated my wife's friend.. His family owns MIR (Maryland Internation Raceway). We go there often to watch the races and the superbike shootout. I asked him about the show and he said it was legit, at least the one he appeared in was. The winner took the GSXR home with him.
