I have the feeling that Marky might bin it trying to win it, and be in a major heap of trouble.
If Lolly wins this one, he is champ.
If Rossi wins it, it will be a truly memorable fight for the CHampionship.

But frankly, I'd love Dovi to win it for Ducati, Rossi second, Lolly third...and the Bot to beat his teammate for once.

Dear Mark #93,
I know in the past we have had a wonderful relationship, but lately things just haven't been the same. You have become more demanding, and while I have usually been able to come through when you ask too much from me, this is simply too much. I have to end this.
Sincerely,
Your Front Tire.

A masterclass performance by Lorenzo who is so incredibly smooth, he makes everything appear effortless. Great mid pack comeback and highside save by Rossi. Crazy Joe's gutsy and superb ride for 2nd place and Marquez pushing and sliding his greasy front tire too much or one too many times made for an exciting and dramatic event, even with Jorge's victory seeming a forgone conclusion in the early stages of the race.

For a minute there I thought Rossi was gonna pull it off. He's gotta start getting better grid positions if he's serious about his championship this season.

Commentary during the feed I watched stated that MM was going to go for it and try and keep with JLo. IMO whatever the HRC issues - Honda should have counselled him to get pts and salvage the season until the issues are resolved. No idea what MM and HRC are doing right now. If they had played for pts instead of wins all season they would have been there with Rossi and JLo right now. I don't see this as hindsight as everyone has been thinking this since the 2nd last failure to make any pts on this season.

Championships are won with consistency... a "win it or bin it" attitude will only take you so far... ask Kevin Schwantz....

I also wondered what the outcome might have been if Rossi got a better start and had a chance to begin the race up with the lead group. Would he have gotten the better of Lorenzo or did Jorge have enough pace in reserve and the 1 - 1.5 second lead it appeared he was managing over the 2nd half of the race? But then I took a look at the race lap analysis and it became crystal clear that Lorenzo was in complete and utter control for the entire race and was abiding by race craft rule #1 of riding only as fast enough as he needed to comfortably win. After lap one, Rossi was only 1 second behind Lorenzo. Lap 2 just 1.1 seconds. By lap four, The Doctor was in 2nd place, 1.4 seconds adrift but with no one in between him and Jorge to impede any attempt to try and run Lorenzo down and take the win.

The Factory Yamaha is running extremely well right now and Lorenzo is at the top of his game. Barring misfortune/bad-luck, I can't see anyone beating him for the championship. For the sake of making the racing more exciting, I hope to see Marquez and HRC get their problems sorted because what would be more exciting than seeing the best riders in the world competing on the best motorcycles in the world with both the riders and their bikes performing at their best?

“Today I took the risk and people will say 'why don't you finish the race'. Sure I can finish the race 20 seconds behind but you know it is not my style. Yesterday I say that now I am at the point where I need to take risks if I want to win this championship, but I cannot lose any race.
MotoGP News - MotoGP Catalunya: Caught out Marquez left with ‘nothing to lose’

Someone needs to get him to see the math...

Less risks more podiums = in contention. Remember JLo had a 4th, 4th, and 5th to start the season before his run of 4 wins. MM has a win, a 5th, 2nd and 4th in races he finished. He would have had 2nd in Argentina and two 3rds in the recent races - 52 pts which would have placed him 3rd in the championship; roughly 15 pts behind JLo. At worst he would have had 4ths in the recent races behind the Ducs. Still in contention.

Very surprising to hear this from someone who has won the title twice most recently. Very surprising HRC is letting him do this.

I posted the exact same sentiment regarding Marquez after Misano and was chastized as an armchair quarterback with comments along the lines of "how do you criticize a two-time world champion". There are some damn stupid people in the world.

This is what you get when you have had it your way almost your entire career. The young man needs to do some maturing this season, the Michelins will not be any more forgiving of his antics. Otherwise it is possible he will be the fastest guy on the grid that either wins or crashes trying. He will do this of course until he has a serious injury (counter to what some said last year on here I doubt he is more "skilled" at crashing than others to explain his lack of serious injuries).

No, one broken femur. Or maybe a badly separated shoulder. Or perhaps a good knock to the noggin that causes him to lose several rounds. Every one of these takes a toll on your body and makes you a little slower.

At some point he then wouldn't be the fastest guy on the grid, which unless he changes his mentality means he will be slow and crashing a lot rather than fast and crashing.

I said this in October 2013, and I think it's being shown to be mostly correct/true, in today's world.

MotoGP: Mandatory bike swap

So, again, while I'd never bet against MM on pure talent and reflexes, and his Casey-like ability to override the bike, he does NOT (yet) win on race craft nor on the Championship winning mental approach needed for that goal, when he's up against it....when his bike or the current situation is real difficult. He's starting to make too many mistakes.

He hasn't learned to pick the battles in order to win the war. Some of this is due to his incredible talent and self-belief, and previous results, which are all great things to have, but he needs to show that other side of him that we have not yet seen much of (and that he has not yet NEEDED to show 'til now!), to.... become truly great.

I continue to state that, IMO, Lorenzo remains the best overall rider in terms of racing for the Championship today.
