Default Error Code

I'm trying to get the RC ready for a race this weekend, and I fear I might have screwed it up
'02 RC giving me an error code eight (blinks). I last rode the bike in a race in early April, and simply drove it off the track and into the trailer. I Changed the oil, etc., but I also attempted to remove the soft revlimiter per Rogue site, and noticed the problem when I pulled it off of the lift. Shoulda just unplugged the speedo

-- Engine idles, but cuts off as soon as I apply throtle. FI light is on, and jumping the service connector gives me an error code eight (TPS). I've pulled my PCIII out of the loop, but the error is still there. I've checked the connectors, and the circuit Ohms out, meaning I have continuity, but I'm not getting the voltages to the sensor that the service manual says I should. My assumption, then, was the ECU as I was jumping two connectors there. A local guy, I didn't know until last night, came by and let me try his, but same problem. My thoughts now are shorted circuit or possible TPS (again, I didn't get a voltage reading to it though).

Anyone know of a similar issue that can provide some help? It's either figure this out, or put a lot of tape and a Turkey pan under the 996 and bribe some Tech dudes at the track.

Your would be greatly appreciated and I would be in your debt

Right off the bat, disconnect the jumper you used for the soft rev limiter mod & try it again. (btw disconnecting the speedo faults the ECU too as that is how they compensate for ram-air effect)

The jumper was the first thing I removed.
I then unplugged to PC, and checked all connectors, and tried to reset code.

Go back and look at the plug you jumped.

You may have broken the lead internally. These are single strand soft copper wires and will break with no witness marks,

Disconect the main ECU plug and do a wire by wire continuity test from the ecu side of the plug to 20 inces down stream.

The TPS is closed loop so it will only recieve power when the system is operating.

I'll check for cont. on the Black / White wire (B2), on the grey connector, as that is the one that was jumped (to A15 that was vacant). I haven't yet, but will also check all shared circuits w/ TPS.

I did visually check all of the of the connectors / terminals and all appeared to be in good order. I'm working off memory here, as I don't have the service manual in front of me, but the thing that confuses me is that I don't remember the circuit for the TPS as being shared with the jumped circuit.

Any more thoughts for when I play with it more tonight?

BTW, did you ever sell the SP2 swingarm?

WERA I had the same problem with my bike. Try this. I disconnected the tps harness sensor (which the 8 blinks is for) and cleaned it. Nothing still ran like crap. Touch the throttle and it cut out and spit farted burped all that crap. So I did all the service manual stuff with the meter and all the rest of that crap nothing still. So I started checking harnesses and cleaning them. Clean the tps sensor harness, the four fuel injector harnesses, and then try it. It worked for me and has never came back. I just used some contact cleaner on the harness.

Try this and let me know. Where are you racing at this weekend VIR?

If you need anything else or have anymore questions on what I did let me know?

I'll give it a try tonight and let you know.

Roebling this weekend (if I get this thing sorted out). I have a race @ VIR later this month (26th??) - I don't go very well there (or any track really) My best @ VIR has been 1:37.60 in the dry & 1:41.8 in the wet (or damp), but that was a while ago when I rode more regularly. Raced earlier this year @ Jennings & it was my first time back on any bike in nearly 18 months .
