Default help a fellow rc51 guy thats electrically challenged please.

I dont know where to turn. i have been trying to figure out this problem and i seemed to make it worse trying to find the source. Heres the deal. i painted my bike a little while back and ended up replacing plastics taking stuff apart putting back together and such so i may have created the problem there but dont know.

I was riding the bike for the past couple weeks with no problems running perfect. then after a long day riding the bike stutters on the freeway. almost like no spark for a split second, kinda like running out of gas feeling. i stop in at gas station and top off the tank (almost empty) and start off again to see the spuratic problem did not go away. it lost spark twice on the freeway then doed at a light almost home. it started up right away and rolled out but i thought it to be a loose battery cable or something.

When getting the bike home i took the seat off and diconnected the battery. the cables were not loose and everything seemed in tact. after replacing the battery cables and such the bike would not light up at all. no dash no nuthin. i then checked the fuses for possible surge or something but all fuses are fine. now the battery connected gives no juice. it does however give juice to the alarm. where should i look if i have good fuses and the bike doesnt get juice?

i may be trippin out or something is small and i dont notice it yet but thats y im shooting this out to you guys in hopes theres something im not thinking about at the moment!

I appreciate the help if possible!

Can you try to bypass the alarm? Maybe it's not working properly. Or maybe the battery is dying. Did you check the voltage on the battery?

There is a 30A fuse near the battery, and another 30A fuse on the starter relay (it's on the subframe, follow the positive battery cable). My guess is one of those fuses is blown and the alarm still works because it is powered directly from the battery. Is that where the alarm gets power?
If you are still having problems, remove the alarm, remove the Power Commander if you have one. Have your battery tested and charged and try it again.

Let us know, Hoov.

If you have a Power commander is it grounded to your Battery Terminal? Thats where it should be and not to the frame or anywhere else.

I bet your root cause is a pinched wire that has worn through & is grounding out on the frame somewhere

Check the wires running under the seat and left side of the tank. My tank had pinched the wire from the tilt sensor and was causing all kinds of havoc.

Thanks for the input. Im gonna have to check this stuff when i get home, the tanks comin up and that starter relay fuse os gettin check as well. i knew i forgot a fuse. And yea i have a pc3 grounded to the batt neg so if it get down to it i guess ill bypass the pc3 and give the batt a little charge and see what happens. im pretty sure something has arced to the frame and blown that fuse (i hope) and i can figure that pinched wire or something, these electrical things bug me out for some reason.

Thanks for the replies its much appreciated!

Best thing to do is start the bike and move every harness and relay by hand(pull and shake), trying to duplicate riding on the highway.

I had a stalling problem aswell, I found that my starter relay was not plugged in all the way. My

well as it stands i have no ju8ice to the dash or anything. the battery is charged but theres a break in the circuit somewhere like the fuse is blown but the left side fusebox is good as well as the fuse off the battery. the last fuse at the starter replay is my next thing to look at. so as it stands now i cant start it.

WHen you remove your seat and battery? Did you think that you might have replace the cables backwards? Or tighten the negative first then while tightening the positive arch to ground?

If so then your main 30 amp fuse is probably the main problem..Also when checking the main 30amp on the starter relay make sure to check to fuse under the red connector and NOT the SPARE fuse in the rubber housing.

Also check your main ground cable as well and do varified that your battery is indeed GOOD...actually that should always be the first test of all electrical problems. hope that helps

yeha im still at work so im going home armed with your guys info and the first thing im gonna tackle is that 30amp fuse on the subframe. im pretty sure that could be the culprit as the batt did arc when i pulled it upright for the disconnection. i always install batteries positive first then negative and when removing i remove negative first. i did not get the sides mixed up though but im banking that the arc could have blown that other fuse. damn im anxious to get home and fix this!!!

I have to get her up and running cuz next week im going to hit ventura for a few days for some relaxing vacation time!!

yup it was the 30 amp in the subframe! im going to take the tank off just in case and go over the wiring with a fine tooth comb to make sure theres nothing split frayed or whatever.

Thanks everyone for the input!!! You guys rock!
