Need Help with fuel injection or electrical problem
Ok, heres the deal. Did VIR yesterday and the bike starts to "stutter" real bad when I try getting on the gas coming out of a turn. At first I thought it was something that was happening because the bike was leaned over but the more I rode I realized that it's actually happening every time I'm getting back on the gas in the turn. No problems at all going down the straights. Bike is pullin ghard all the way to the Hard limiter. So once again, approaching a turn, Im on the brakes/off the gas, I lean into a turn and as soon as I get on the gas, it stutters like it wants to stall then once I'm around 3000+rpms Im guessing, its back to normal and pulling hard. Well, thats a scary feeling I must say while Im at it. So i almost parked it in the pea gravel on several occasions as this happens in left or right turns.
I checked my connections and cant find anything loose, battery terminals are tight. I checked the power commander map just now. This is where I first thought the problem may be, but it has the Sato Banzai map loaded. Sitting on stande the bike will rev through the rpms with out any stuttering at all.
Now the background info. The bike is an 03, has Sato Banzais, powercommander, flapper, pair. This winter I installed the HRC basic racer wiring harness from BVH and this is the first run the bike has made on the track since the harness install. Rode it down the road once and had no problem but was hardll getting on it hard at all so the first time after the wire harness install was yesterday. My guess is, the problem lies somewhere with the wire harness, but am lost as to where to start now. I am heading back to VIR the 21st for the cornerspeed school, and would like to have this resolved.
Ok, so Im driking a beer now trying to figure this out. Someone help
Re: Need Help with fuel injection or electrical problem (Rookie)
I agree it probably has something to do with the new harness. There was some debate going on about the clutch switch and what needed to be done with it when removing the left switch pod with the stock wiring harness.
I have looked over the 00/01' wiring diagram and on that model you have to jumper two wires on the harness to simulate the clutch switch being "closed" (Green/Red and Green/white) now the bike will start in any gear, but I have had feedback that said the bike was running great after the conversion.
The 02+ model may be different, I think I read a reply that said on those models you could just remove the left switch pod and NOT jumper the wires together. This seemed strange to me, I figure it still needs the jumper.
The HRC Harness may have different wire colors than stock, or it may not even have the Green/Red and Green/White wires running up near the clip-ons. I don't have the harness, sorry I can't be more helpful.
You may want to contact Bob Hiyashida (sp?) at Big Valley Honda for some help. Where did you buy the HRC wiring harness from?
The reason I am even mentioning this is because, on the stock wiring harness if you have one of the little clutch switch wires fall off the connection, the bike will not start except in nuetral, and some people had complained of the bike running poorly. I don't know why the ECU would care about that switch (except when starting the bike) but I think it does make a difference to the ECU.
Somebody here has a more definitive answer than me, I would be e-mailing Bob H though.
Hoov.
Not that I have any experience with racing or your HRC wiring harness. But could the problem be that you are too low in the rev's for the bike and it is unhappy at that speed. I may have just mis-read your post, but you say that once the bike is above 3000 rpm it pulls fine. I would try and see if it does the same thing in a straight line. You may only have to adjust your gearing. HTH
Re: Need Help with fuel injection or electrical problem (Hoovenater)
Thanks Hoov, I sent an Email to Bob last night right after I posted this as well. He got back to me in a couple hours . He says he has hear of the same thing before and it might be that the harness is pushing aginst the PC wires causing the bike to cut out inttermitently, so Im going to get the tank off and go over the wire routing more carefully, hopefully this is it.
Rookie, the same was happening to mine and I'm quite sure it was the fuel tank air line being pinched. Maybe since you had the tank off or propped up to install the wiring harness, the lines got moved and/or pinched during the reinstall of tank. Mine was doing it in two specific turns only. It was bogging in one and stalling in another after I had moved thehoses around to install an overflow canister.
My FI light would blink, showing a map sensor problem.
Well, after tearing the bike apart today, the best thing I can come up with at this point is that it may be a PCIIIr problem. I removed the tank and airbox and went over all the wire harness connections and cut open the harness where it passes under the tank to make sure no wires had been cut. Couldnt find any there. Dressed up the routing of the harness so it wasnt getting pinched anywhere at all and put it back together. Ran down the street and sure enough, it starts cutting out on me. So I come back and remove the PCIIIr and take her out again. This time I notice no problems at all. So I reinstall the PC to check again, and now it is very obvious it is cutting out and I notice it does it at about 4500rpms, by 5000 its pulling hard as usuall. I ride around the block running up the powerband and back down and every time it stutters around 4500 rpms. So once again I remover the PC take it out and run through the same thing and have no problems.
Now I have the bike back together, minus the PCIIIr and will be heading to Cornerspeed tomorrow for school on Mon. If all goes well, I'll have to assume its the PC as I cant really get to crazy here at home but will know for sure on Mon. If, I have no problems I'll ship the PC out to Dynojet to see what they say.
Re: Need Help with fuel injection or electrical problem (Rookie)
i just have to ask: what are you doing on a track, coming out of corners at 3k rpm? wayyyy too low for anything resembling performance riding. i try to always keep it above 6k at all times on the track, except in corners that are in between gears, in which case the safe bet is the higher gear and a smooth, albeit not as fast, exit.
Re: Need Help with fuel injection or electrical problem (Start2Fabrication)
Well, i used to spend my days with a hacksaw and blowtorch destroying perfectly good motorcycles, now I slowly cruise around the track holding up experts like you
as you will see in post one I said "3000+rpms I'm guessing" as I dont tend to stare at the tach when me knee is down. That may perhaps be your style it just aint mine. Later you will see, I have found it to be 4500-5000 rpms when it happens.
However I know you are here to help and I do appreciate your advice so Monday while I'm at VIR again, I'll try my best to keep her pinned through every corner, coming off the gas only to pit in.

you won't find one in use at my place... nor a torch. you might find both a new millermatic 175 and a synchrowave 180, but no conventional torch
watch out ladies, we're talking aircraft spec work here!

Careful there hillbilly. I can cut anything I damn well please in my shop with my Hacksaw. I built 4 bikes in the last 3 months and I ain't hearing anyone of the owners complaining about my lack of aircraft specs
I also have a plasma cutter as well as a sheet metal shear. I just like my hack saw, my chop saw ,my sawzall, my die grinders, my air nibbler, my skill saw, my jig saw, and probably another dozen cutting devises. I can wield all of them in a fairly accurate manner. I also Own them. They don't belong to my boss. I have seen the pics of where you do your so called fabrication. Looks like something out of a trailer park car port.
I ain't the one with a front end stand made out of a bunch of wood scraps you picked up at home depot

Well there ya go, everyone has seen what I have, everyone has seen what I build, everyone has seen what I can and do build right here.
Everyone has seen that you are a bold face liar, with nothing but tall stories and promises of what you will build, will show, will weigh.....
Show me a sub 400 pound street legal RC 51
Show me all your vast and expansive equipment that allows you to build to such exacting standards.
Show me proof that you run in the advanced group at all these track days you run
Re: Need Help with fuel injection or electrical problem (sp2pilot)
i'm still waiting for you to post pictures of your supposed craftsmanship without useing hacked off bolts as kickstands, poorly shaped and roughly sanded 'bodywork' where there's supposedly a frenched taillight, some kind of plexiglass for a undertail that looks like a dog chewed on it, etc...
the only craftsmanship i've seen from you came straight off of a shelf.

Please throw up your version of performance riding so I can get a feel for proper corner speed.
