Default Question about valve shims

Hey all, hope someone can give some advice. My Sp1 has done around 36000km and I recently starting noticing a tick.I've got to service my bike soon and as I bought the it about a year ago and don't have much service history I thought while I'm at it I'll check the valve clearences.
Because my bike is my only means of transport I need to get it sorted in one go.While surfing eBay today i spotted a set of "Hot Cams valve shims".
Has anybody used or know anything about these shims?HONDA RC51 HOT CAM CAMS VALVE SHIM KIT 00-04:eBay Motors (item 360175323545 end time Nov-26-09 05:28:42 PST)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'd call the local H dealer and ask if they stock all sizes and how much do they go for. At most you would need 8 shims but I doubt you would need more than 3. Make sure you number them right when taken off and double check the gap in 3 am positions and take the same caliber with you to measure the ones you buy, in case your instrument is off.
Just because you don;t hear a tick doesn't mean they are within spec, they may be tighter than normal and not tick. With an aftermarket exhaust and all that gear whining I doubt anyone can hear a valve tick.
Chances are that if your bike runs clean and this is your first adjustment by running good oil you may not need to do this for an other 50k

Because I intend to do my own valve clearance checks, I bought my kits from Procycle. It cost me around $90 + S&H.
The 9.48mm shim kit includes 3 shims each from size from 1.2 to 3.5mm in .05 mm increments (141 shims total).
Additional shims are around 57 cents each and are laser etched with size.
They come in nice labeled and divided containers.

I have the Hot Cams kit as well but ended up using OEM shims anyways for a more accurate valve clearance.
Just measure the shim clearances as they are now and order the correct thickness OEM shims as needed. Most dealers will prob not have them in stock.

The aftermarket shims I've found are all in 0.05 increments, the Honda ones are available in 0.025 increments. It probably isn't critical but if I'm going to the trouble of doing it I may as well get it as accurate as possible. I use the Honda shims, I found a guy in the UK who exchanges them for 2 quid a shim on a goodwill basis - pretty cool in this day and age.

+1 on that one. Call your dealer and see if they have an exchange program. Not as time effective like it seems you need it to be, depending on how far away your local dealer is, but I think I paid $2 a shim.
