Default What is the record for Miles/Km's for an SP1/RC51 engine before rebuilding?

Gday all, my bike is up to 51,000km's or 31,689 miles - it still runs amazing.... As a rule what is the normal timeframe or mileage before a rebuild? Just wondering........

Cheers

Ash

depends... i just rebuilt mine last year and the valve seals are leaking something horrible, so 3000 miles later it's torn down again

It really depends on the 'type' of miles. I would imagine 15,000 to 20,000 'race' miles would be about time. No reason to even think about teardown before 50,000 or 60,000 street miles unless there are some oil consumption or other visible mechanical issue. If treated really right with proper maintenance, 100,000 shouldn't be hard to get out of a Honda.

Wasn't that Coleman's RC? Or did he kartwheel his at the track? Either way, he had an insane amount of miles on his.

56k on my 2000 and ZERO oil consumption... cant take credit for most of them though as previous owner liked to do 1000mile runs (just kidding, he was an awesome person)

Cool thanks, mine is all road miles - no leaks and I always change oil & filter every 6 months so should be good for a long time........

I did see one day when I was searching the net about the SP1 an owner claiming 129,000 miles and still running strong. Just thought I would check on here to see if that was possible.

Cheers

Ash

Depends on your idea of "rebuild" and when "you" feel its needed.

Top end will prob go before the bottom.....but to what extend will it "need" to be rebuilt?

Some guys will live with a 1/2 liter of oil consumption over a 4,000 mile interval for years and years and be fine.....others hate the idea.

is that what happen to the ol man?? dammm

my speedo shows 89k but I had changed it out due to a get off on track. I should have no-where less than 120k on my sp1. No oil lost and runs well from my butt dino. Handful of track miles...roughly 2-3k on track. On my third clutch and a new one soon. Third stator/rectifier. second coil set but it was just the wire that was loose.Original starter. second swingarm. second subframe. second computer and gas tank/fairing.....on and on.

Oh..hell..everything is second except the engine and frame...boy that was easy

I'm just lucky I'm still original
