Default Front wheel bearing replacement Q

Me again.

I just pressed in new OEM front wheel bearings and new seals last night, and it seems they've seated properly. However, the internal aluminum collar that sits inbetween the inner races of the bearings is wedged in there so tight, that I couldn't turn the opposed races by hand. I put everything together anyway, and then I could actually spin the wheel by hand when mounted and torqued on the bike. I rode 50 miles afterward on the freeway and made it home in one piece.

Is this normal? Thank you for your help!

by hand? or your fingers?

put the wheel on the bike torque and remove the calipers, check stiction, if the wheel moves freely it will spin easily, if not then you havent got the bearings straight, seated or you broke one

Sounds Fine... I wouldn't want to be able to hold one and spin the other... Cause to me,. that means there is play\movement... The spacer is designed to be like that, tight between the bearings, so when We torque down on the axle nut.. it will NOT put a bind in the bearings... so the way you have it sounds perfect to me..

I would still try as mspeedman said IF you still question your job,.. remove calipers and spin the wheel... You want it to FREE Spin and or SPIN Freely!

Peace

With the calipers removed and on a front stand, the wheel will spin somewhat freely...like maybe 2 revolutions with a good throw - like a miniature The Price is Right wheel.

I couldn't turn the inner races with my fingers while the wheel was off the bike. Futhermore, there was no freeplay between the aluminum collar (inside the wheel) and the inner races, so it was a very tight fit.

Well,.. with the calipers off... You still have alittle SEAL drag.. BUT It Should spin better then only 2 revs.!.. Mine spins more then 2 revs. with the Calipers still on!

Try,.. undo the NUT... so there is ZERO torque and how's she spin now? IF it still stops fast I would check EACH of the bearings, as it sounds like too much Drag mang., Yes/No
