Angry Major Problems!!!!! Need Help Asap

ok guys heres the deal,

bike is a 2002, with all the normal goodies, minus airbox and snorkel and also does not have the soft rev mod.

i had the 16k service done about 1 month ago and about 300 miles ago, valves were in spec and everything was awesome, until i was riding home one day, hit some bumps in the road and the bike sputtered and then died. pulled over and it started right up and ran perfectly, about ten miles later on flat highway(no bumps) the bike sputtered and died. finally got to where i was going and rode the rest of the day about 90 miles and the bike ran flawless. about 2 weeks went by and i am on my way home from a meet about 60 miles from home. going down the highway, come down an on ramp and the bike sputters and dies, does this three more times within a 30 mile section on the way home.

got home, filled her up with new gas and ran it for a while, nothing at all. following day took all the plastics off and that is how she sits now. i checked all the wires and everything is in good shape, no wear or tear in any of the sleaving. took the battery out tonight and cleaned the terminals, checked everything, including the ecu terminals and everything is perfect. plug it back in , bike turns on , fuel pump wont even make a noise now. the relay in the back clicks like normal, the pc runs like normal, but the fuel pump does absolutely nothing.

i cant figure out what is wrong with this thing at all, its driving me nuts, a month ago it was working perfectly and now all of a sudden its got a case of the yipps.

any insite you guys can give would help out greatly,

do you think it could be the fuel pump is dead?
the ecu?
tps?

i have no clue, as far i can think it may be a bad connection somewhere or something but its killing me

thanks for the help
phill

Default problem

First thing i would check is tip over sensor, check your grounds.I had simmilar problem(my bike would not die but FI light would come on and bike would hasitate)turned out my negative battery cabel was loose, but you already had your battery out .Next i would check all fusess. If you have owners manual there is procedure how to check fuel pump relay. You can also activate fuel pump by jumping it right at conector with jumper wires(not big automotive wires) and your power tool battery or your bike battery this way if pump starts running you can eliminate pump, than you have to check wires(powers, grounds, etc)it is proces of elimination!!!
I hope this helps.

I will say that the above comment is what needs to be followed to a t. If your fuel pump IS done for, I have an extra that I wil send to you to test and if it works I will let it go on the cheap. Clean all your grounds and make sure there is a good contact in all power connections. Dirt finds a way to sneak in everywhere.

Did you mention in your original post that you had a power commander on the bike? If so, which model? Try disconnecting the PC (put it back to stock) and see what happens. I had a PC3R on my last RC that went south, and the fuel pump would not prime and the bike would not turn over. Removed the PC and everything worked fine.

If that is not the case, or you don't have a power commander, I would check the tip over sensor.

unplug your tipover sensor and jumper the two outside wires in the plug together.

if your pump primes and the bike starts then ride the bike like that for a while.. if the symptoms don't come back then replace the tipswitch or leave it jumpered... really up to you

Stupid question Number 1: Are the cables bolted tightly to your battery terminals?

Since it's nearly impossible to troubleshoot something like this without being there I'm gonna shoot from the hip and blame the kickstand shutoff switch. Bang bang!!

Check your grounds going to the frame? Sometimes they get corroded or loose.

I also had a PC3 go bad on me at the track. Would miss around 8k and then just stopped working later in the day.

I've had similar problems before. The first time it was the power commander. I have a PCIII. For some reason it dumped the program. This happened twice to me and all I had to do was reload the map. I now have my PCIII in foam to absorb some of the vibrations and I haven't had a problem with that in 3 years. Later I had a problem with the fuel pump relay. I bought a fuel pump thinking it was that but all I needed was a new relay. Again no problems since.
