Default Wont start when in gear

Hey guys,
Fairly new RC owner hear and I have a question. I ride an 2002 model and it will only start when in neutral. Manual says it will start (like my GSXR 750 I also ride) in any gear as long as I have the clutch pulled. So, can anybody out there start their bike while in gear or do I have a issue.

Thanks

Even with the kickstand up I have to tow her into neutral to get it to turn over. Emberrassing as this is, I know cause the first day I was riding her I stalled twice while starting off (too used to the feel of the inline four).

Hey "The Drill"
Check your gearing... as that would be the ONLY reason to stall her! Has nothing to do with being a V-Twin... so it sounds like your RC51 has the "Stock" gearing OR Very close to it.

Good luck and ride safe!

Yo- Actually, the bike is -1,+2 (for torque - like it needs any more). It has everything with her being a V-Twin!

I am not sure how my body knows - wheather it is feel or sound, but like you, I do not watch my tach when starting. I "feel" weather or not to give her more throttle. The RC51 "feels" 100% different then the inline GSXR 750. Period. The reason I f-ed it and stalled the first day was because on my '05 Gixxer I can start releasing the clutch and "Feel" the engine say "hey gas me" and then throttle. The RC is kinda like give a bit of gas and release clutch simutaneously. Yada Yada Yada.......

So, I will check that clutch wire connection this afternoon. Thanks!

Hey...> "The Drill"

WOW!.. -1 & +2 and still stalled... Well,.. it's just apart of getting used to something different is all.. ej?

Drill: 1 Last thing... The RC51 clutch IS well know for having "Crap for feel" at the clutch lever.. the fiction zone is very small= Grabby... (This doesn't mean WE All can't get use to it and Still ride the shite out of it! Hahahaa) However, she's Definitely got Nothing for feel, compared to my 1994 CBR900RR! Even My 2003 Speed Triple's clutch, Has much better feel at lever, then the RC51s OEM Clutch!!.. Master cylinder < SUX

By the way Drill man,.. Your GSXR750.. She have a Cable or Hyda. Clutch?

Anyway.. Ride safe and enjoy

Hahahha...I sitting here thinkin "why the F is this guy calling me "the Drill" then I realize my usual screen name "Kelbor" got messed up and on here I'm "elbor" Ha! I guess that Spanish for "Fighting Rooster" or something huh?

Yeah, the 750 has a cable and the lack of feel in the RC is definentely the feeling I was describing. I was always under the impresion that hydrolic would work better. Still dont have a problem ridding the ish out of her. What do you think of Clucthless shifts on the Honda? - I began to rarely touch my clutch on the Suzuki after a few years and have had no issues.

Other then that - bike still wont start when in gear (even with the kick up) and I have found no loose wires yet ..........

+1, the wires can come loose and the rubber boots can still keep the connectors in place, it can be misleading. You should be able to her the switch "click" when the lever comes in most of the way. If you have a meter you can check the switch easily.

I had the exact issue on mine...problem was clutch sensor switch had failed. Cant remember if the circuit needs to be open or closed...try opening/closing the circuit at the switch. If one of the 2 lets you start it in gear, the problem is clear. Replace the switch, or permanently set the circuit.
