Default Suspension set-up for a big guy?????

Hey guys,

Bought my RC last year & have had alot of fun riding it. I have ridden a few track days in the past on bigger bikes (93 GSXR 1100 & 93 ZX11). I want to set the RC up to do some track days next spring. Is it possible to set my bike up for me to be in the proper riding position & the suspension to work well, or am I just dreamin. I'm 6'7" tall & weight 265 lbs. Any suggestions would be much apreciated.

Thanks Tiny

Get you an Ohlins, Penske, Elka rear shock and have your forks reworked by Dan Kyle. If you find a decent deal on a rear shock, you can make your bike brand new for just over a grand.

Are you making sexual innuendoes about me & a football??????

I know, I know, I hear the gorrilla & football jokes all the time! But, I don't care!!!!! I love my RC & nobody's gone tell me what I can & can't ride.

I apreciate the suggestion for an alternate riding option, but I think I'll make due with my baby.

Now, if anybody has any legite suggestions, I would really apreciate it.

Thanks Tiny

I thought I already did. You are never going to get the stock set-up to work RIGHT for you. If you don't really care, just ride it the way it is, but you will never really know what that bike should feel like.

Bryan, I apreciate the advise on the forks & shock.

I was just kidding about the rest of the stuff. I am a big guy & hear about it every time I ride my RC.

If I offended anybody or anyone took anything personal, I appologize.

Tiny

xrocket21 thanks for the info on inserting quotes. I think I got it now.

Hey Tiny did you see this in the classifieds section?

FS ohlins rear shock

You'd probably still want to get it re-sprung for your weight (or for your weight & a Mori or Dan Kyle link) but it's a great price. I bought my Ohlins rear from another Zilla member and Dan re-sprung it for my weight & link FOC when he did my forks.

I'm 6'2" and 220, and the ONLY way yer gonna get her to handle the way it was designed to is to REPLACE the shock and either have yer forks re-worked (Dan Kyle does great work) or replace 'em with Ohlins R/T units sprung to your weight. Do yourself a huge favor and install a Kyle link with the new shock. Good luck.

Hey Tiny,

I have a 2002 RC and I am 6'3 245lbs i did a DK link and a brand new Ohlins. The bike rides so much nicer. i will have my forks done locally over the winter. I can't wait to see how much better it will be.

it was worth ever cent.

Good luck.

Hey Tiny, not sure if I'm stating the obvious, and I don't know what you've done for changing settings on the OEM shock & forks etc, but I have the owners manual in front of me and it states that the max weight capacity is 366lbs, so you're a 100lbs shy of max.

Have you tried adjusting the rear suspension preload for example, to a setting between 6-9? I know all the "racers" out there will claim how much better the Ohlins set-up is, but for now and for free, I'd maybe do some reading in the manual and try some different settings. If it doesn't work, so what, it's not permanent, return to your original settings and then plan on getting the DK link & Ohlins etc. Personally I can't imagine by RC handling any better than it already does with the stock set-up, and I've done some pretty hard riding on challenging roads, but everything is a perception. Good luck!

Thanks Speed,

I apreciate the info on the stock suspension & will try a few different things this year before I put her away for the winter. I think this winter i will do the shock, link & have Kyle do my forks, so that I will have more adjustability when I do track days next year.
