Swapping a SP2 throttle position sensor on to a SP1?
I am checking to see if anyone has swapped a SP2 Throttle Position Sensor on to a SP1. I have come across members who have swapped out throttle position sensors from one SP2 to another without any issues. I understand that the throttle body assemblies are different from a SP2 to a SP1, but the TPS sensors look to be the same. Just want to see if anyone has attempted this or knows if this is possible. I have done searches, but have not been able to find any threads explaining if this is possible. If it helps, my TPS sensor from my 2000 SP1 has the identification #'s JT4R 00201 on the face of the sensor.
Hoping to get back up and running strong.
Thanks for any input,

Reason: spelling
Has anyone ever attempted this? Reason I’m looking to go this route is because I would prefer to switch out TPS’s with a newer SP2 sensor due to the age factor. I am sure one of you techy guys have attempted this. If any of you have attempted this, Please let me know your outcome. (i.e. is the way it attaches the same?, voltage range the same?)
Unfortunately the TPS is part of the entire throttle body assembly, so you can not just purchase the individual throttle position sensor from Honda. You have to purchase the entire throttle body assembly, which for a SP1 is in the neighborhood of $1,800 retail. Of course they could probably be found for less, but that is still way out of what I want to spend, especially since all I am needing is the individual sensor.
The other reasons for looking to see if the SP2 sensor will work on an SP1 is because of the age factor and there seems to be way more used SP2 throttle body assemblies to be found versus the SP1 throttle body assemblies.
Your best bet might be to just swap over the whole SP2 TB's on your SP1.
I've never heard of anyone swapping TBS's from a SP1 to a SP2.
Hey Chuck,... He's talking about swapping "Sensors"... Not the Throttle bodies...
Hey B,According to "Ronayers"... it looks like to "me" that they are completely different part numbers... and FWIW.... WHOEVER told you that you can't get just the "Sensor"... Has GOT to be full of BS! Call MRCycle,... 1(800)-359-0567... Ask for Kevin,.. tell him Jeff sent you... Hahahaaa
They'll hook you up with exactly the part you want..I Hope this Helps..
Peace Jeff

Unfortunately, I have been down this road several times and have received the same answer from everyone I talk to = the only way to get a new TPS is to buy the entire throttle body assembly. This is why I am trying to find a used throttle body assembly and just swap sensors. Funny, but this is the same way Honda does their TPS on some of their later year Civics. When the TPS fails you have to buy the entire throttle body. There are no part numbers for the actual sensor or anyone who sells the individual sensor.
The closest I have come to finding a NEW replacement sensor is from Chinese bulk OEM sensor manufacturers who sell them at large quantities. Even this route doesn't promise an exact match ( internal linkage match / voltage range match ).
If I can find that the SP1 and SP2 TPS sensors are the same I can just purchase a used (not so old = SP2) throttle body, strip the TPS off of it, swap it to my bike and, as long as the voltage matches, I'll be good to go.
Unfortunately, as you found out, you can't get just the TPS. I've been down the road also.
That's why I gave the suggestion of swapping the TB's since you would like a newer one.
That definitely sounds to be a great route to go, along with the obvious performance advantages (i.e. power gain, throttle response). I will most likely have to go this route if I find out that a TPS swap from SP2 to SP1 is not compatible. My main reason for trying to avoid going your route is I didn't want to totally swap bodies, wire harness and ECM.

Thanks for the input,

try Rothmans or cbr400rr(scotts) and see if they have one, maybe ebay?
