Here's some info, it didn't all sink in in one quick pass, but i guess it'd be tricky:
http://www.s-cars.org/postnuke/downl...structions.pdf

Ohw well:
It has 4 pins:
1-Power to primary
2-Ground for build in power output stage (POS)
3-5V DC signal from ECU to control POS switch
4-Secondary ground

Thought it would maybe be possible to supply 5V Vref to no. 3, then ground no. 2 through the MicroSquirt.

The standard stuff on the RC works different. The ECU controls timing and there's two wires running from it to the CDI amplifyer box, which i guess are cylinder #1 and #2. But i don't know if that's a 5V signal, but, if so that might work i guess. (CDI box dropped since it's functions are build in to these coils?) I dono...

I'm gonna forget this, sorry for hijacking.
IF you get two of these stick type coils with built in amplifyer.
AND the signal from your ECU to your CDI box (2x (front and rear?)) is a 5V DC signal too. Why not?
THEN there is imo a good chance these work with the RC and you could drop coils and CDI box.

Or if it's broken this might be fun to try.

It's funny that you brought this post up as I'm doing that conversion to my 93 UrS4 next week. It is turning into my new money pit, my RC just saw the light of day 1 week ago. But I'm looking at using the CBR coil stick instead as they handle the heat far better than the VW/Audi coils.

Hmm. And why do they handle the heath better?

If you look under any VW/Audi site you'll see many write ups about coil pack failures do to heat. The 1.8T coil was the earliest to be modded to the URs4, but due to the high heat they lasted only a very short time. The bike coils seem to handle heat and vibration alot better, so that's why I'm going that route. As for why they handle the heat better, I'm guessing better design (made by Denso).

Guess you're right, i've searched around a bit and i found me two of these VAG things. They're made in Italy....

The reason i wanted these is because of the built in amplification. I will use em with the MicroSquirt, not the original setup. Also i know the dwell times for these, it's nice to not have to guess about it. And these fit the original spark plugs with that screw thingy that cannot be unscrewed attached.

The plug to seal length is briliantly the same as from the original plug and cap. Only the heads are bigger and don't quite fit the valve cover, specialy not the front. But i've been told there's short and long versions. I hope these are short.

Ohw well, it'll keep me of the streets i suppose...

I have the coil kits in stock and I have been running one on my bike for almost 2 years with zero problems. I also have replacment Denso plugs in stock for $11.00 that you don't have to do anything to.

And i would have bought a kit from you, but i got these bits very cheap from a local breakers, already got the coils, the loom to modify, and a new set of ngk plugs, plus ordering a set of spark plug from across the Atlantic seems a little ott! just need the size to lathe the ngk plugs down to. i can work it out if no one know off the top of their head, just thought it would be easier to ask
