I checked the voltage between the two coils and they are about the same so they should work perfect.
What is "about the same" exactly????

Thanks...

The CBR1000RR coils peak voltage is 100v Minimum and the Ignition pulse generator peak voltage is 0.7V minimum.

The RC51 has the same specs in the manual.

The CBR600RR also has the same specs too according to the manual; I have all 3 on my PC.

You would also need the wiring harness to plug it in like OEM. If I made a complete kit all from brand new OEM parts from Honda with instructions shipped it would be $150.00 for everything, 2 new plugs turnd down, 2 new coils, 2 custom wiring harnes.

I would have to pick a set and turn them down, I can't remember what they cost me off of the top of my head.

Default Any Year CBR 1000RR?

Does anybody know if coils from any year CBR will work the same? TIA!

EDIT: Answered my own question...RonAyers shows the part numbers to be the same, at least between 2003-2006.

So?...

It's been awhile now Scott, how has she been running with the "Coil mod"? Any differance at all?

Do you still feel she's cranking alittle faster upon start up?

Are you able to hook me up with the second half we PM about, I'm ready... IF It's not to late?

TIA,

Peace Jeff

The bike runs fine and to me seems to start a little easier but who knows. I'm going to make kits with instructions for sale on my web site if anyone wants to buy them but they would be $150.00 shipped with all brand new OEM parts from Honda and made into a custom kit with colis, plugs and wiring harness.

So is there any weight savings here? Did anyone weigh the CBR coils?

What is the peak voltage of the coil itself, as in spark energy?

Hey Jason,
The word was approx. 1lb I believe it was,
I check my service manuals and the numbers were all the same between the RC51 CBR900RR and my VF1000R...Voltage out put...
Actual spark energy... not so sure of that one...

The biggest reason why I'm thinking of doing is because... it WILL clean it up just that little bit more... of wires, not to mention getting rid of the coils themselfs.

Not trying to be picky or anything but, there are 28.35g in an oz. So if my math is correct 272g = 9.59oz = 0.6lbs. Just thought I would clarify that!

The on coils weight at least half if not less than half of the stock RC51 coils and they tak up at least 1/4th of the spcae of the stock units and are a lot easier to remove for plug changes.

You are correct.

So again, has anyone put these things on a scale?

So from re-reading the whole post, the advantages to this mod would be

1) Less weight and less compartment clutter
2) A stronger spark? Which would equal to more power (more or less)?

Less clutter yes.

Less weight? Who knows?

Stronger spark? Who knows?

I think its great that people are doing stuff like this, but it would really be nice to actually see measurable improvements.

I weighed the CBR coil and it was 4oz so it does weigh less (11.18oz weight savings for the set) and it also makes it easier to change the plugs as it's easier to remove. Unlike the stock RC plug wire that screw into the boot these have a water proof plug that you can disconnect and easily remove the coil to get to the spark plug.
