Guys, here are some better shots of the Tyga carbon tail section with paint.

Please note in these photos the rear trunk lid is just resting on the tail, I did not have it mounted to the actual trunk latch so it protrudes a bit, when installed it will sit flush like OEM (or as flush as they usually sit)!!

I stumbled across someone linking to an article on differences in resins people use for carbon fiber, but I forget the details of it. One type of resin didn't need a clear coat for UV protection as it didn't break down in UV. The other type of resin did, and if left unprotected it yellowed out.

Does that stuff need clear coating to keep it the same color over time?

Tyga uses a quality epoxy resin and everything is clearcoated so it will stay looking great well into the future. (UV inhibitors in the clear) The paint on this tail was over the clearcoat and after that it was not recleared.

yeah you have epoxy and polymer resins. epoxy is best gives a clear finish polymer gives that blue tint to it. and i believe epoxy is stronger

Yeah, epoxy is more expensive but worth it, both are strong, but epoxy has much more bonding strength and is far more resistant to moisture absorption.

My front fender is over a year old and still looks new,(parked inside) but I have seen other Tyga carbon bits that live on bikes parked outside and they still look great a few years on.

Thanks for the info. I'm really liking that tail! If you guys ever produce the rest of the fairings and could sell it for the close to the same price as someone like Nice Cycle with their ABS stuff I bet you'd get a lot of takers really quick!
