and put the stockers back on. Loaded the PC3 with a good stock pipe map (thanks SP2). Don't ask me why, i just did okay?
Anyway, my god does the bike feel slow now!!!! I'd gotten so familiar to the power that i'd forgotten what a HUGE difference the Satos make. Even with 15/41 gearing, the stock pipes really rob serious midrange power. That huge 4-5k dip is back in full force and it drives me crazy.
So far all of you who are considering the Satos, do it. They really make an enormous difference in power, espesially in the 4-7k range.
I guess you just figured that it was crazy experiment day?? I can only find the spare time to get real important things done on my bikes.
Amazing how anemic some "high performance" bikes leave the factory.

To be honest, i ride my bike so much in the city that i was getting a little tired of such loud pipes. Also, i figured that the power decrease would be somewhat muted because of the shorter gearing.
Boy was I wrong!! The Satos make a much bigger imporvement than the gearing, which seems backwards, I know. They just make so much more midrange power that the bike just flat hauls from ANY rpm, even with stock gearing.
The stock pipes however, leave you dead in the water if you're anywhere between 4-5k, which happesn to be the perfect cruise rpm. It also happens to be where the Satos make the most noticeable difference.
And when you combine the 15/41 with the Satos, the bike is just an animal at 4k in ANY gear.
I'm considering the swap to Sato Lows because they are much quieter and make even more power!!

I might sell them. But only if someone offered me close to a grand and was within driving distance. I might change my mind later, but for now i'm in no rush and don't want to hassle with paypal and shipping those bad-dogs.
So if you've got a grand, which by the way is about $400 cheaper than new, and you're in the San Diego or LA area we could talk.
This is not the place for this so let's not talk business anymore here. Let's just talk about performance!!
talk performance, as in how much you just lost by taking
the banzai's off? My guess would be at least 7 or 8 hp...
I put the same system on my bike with guru lou's map and
the damn thing rocks.. I ain't never going back to stockers...
Damn, just the sound alone.. people around here in Mass have
never heard of Sato. All the I-4 crowd runs Devils or 2 Bros, so
when I pull up with a bike that sounds like a friggin GTO on a
BALCO 'roid binge, it definetly raises some eyebrows..

Yea, but here in SoCal, when John Q. Law says to go back to stock, you go back to stock.
I don't think cops hassle loud bikes as much as they do with loud lowered cars. I never got stopped on my piped SV, I got stopped multiple times in my car

It's all good, keeps me off the canyons and out of trouble. Although I do love the sound of those throttle bodies at full song.

Cruising or canyon riding? Lets ride Angeles Forest this weekend, lets see who get stopped first.

Tell me about it... 3 to 5k is positively deafening... I wear earplugs under my
helmet.. 5 to redline is a bit better, can't it as much probably cuz of speed
and wind noise..

This would have been more interesting if you had pulled the satos and installed another quality brand of slip-ons...
yosh, m4's, leo's... they all cost quite a bit less and certainly didn't dissappoint me when switching between the two, which is why I'm selling the sato's
You make a great point Start2. I've often pondered the same things myself. Dyno charts don't interest me. What interests me is feel, and the Satos help in a big way.
But i've wondered...... how much do other exhausts help in the midrange? What would be fun and educational is to do as you say. Swap between various slip ons and re-map accordingly.
Would the touted Yosh's perform similarly to the Satos? And at half the cost of low mounts to boot?
M4s
Leos
Jardines
Erions
Harris
Arrow
Mori
They say you can feel 2 hp differences. The Sato Lows make 2-3 more ft/lbs and hp across most of the band compared to the Banzais. It would be interesting to test both back to back.
Since you have compared Sato to stock recently, and it's still fresh in your mind of what the comparison is, people need to lend you their systems to install on your bike ASAP
