Have you ever heard the voice?
I was just wondering if you have ever heard the voice? You know the one when you throw your leg over the bike and the voice says if you hit that starter and go you are going to face plant into a wall. I only ask because I have heard the voice a couple times and the first time I didnt listen and face planted into a large dirt wall, and the second occured today. So today I listened. But it sucks since it is about 75 outside sunny and no clouds. If you have heard the voice did you listen or did you chance it and what happened if you did.

Re: Have you ever heard the voice? (tacpmeho)
There have been times when I had a bad feeling about going for a ride. Or I'd be sitting at our usual meeting point and just looking around, I felt uneasy.
When I stepped back and thought about it logically, most of the time it was because I was riding when I was tired, dehydrated, hungover or had something else on my mind. Other times, I was looking at the people that had showed up and their collective egos and mentally playing out the ride in my head.
Never once did I let a bad feeling like that keep me from riding...I'd just be more careful, drink plenty of water and go give 'the speech' to the new guys. I'd explain how there would be no trophies issued out at the end and just generally explain how we conduct ourselves on a group ride. More than once, they ended up thanking me and telling me that no one had ever talked to them about the ride before taking off.
So, yes I listen to my inner voice, but not quite the same way you do.
Jeff.

Yah, I know the voice.... I only get that feeling every once in a while. I've ridden 'against' it twice. First time I made it to the end of my road, and it was screaming "GO HOME NOW" so I did, and didn't ride. The second time I road against it, I had to meet my g/f for lunch... never made it. One bike totalled, and I was banged up.... since then, I listen to it.

Re: (theman1990)
well sounds like you and I have the same luck. As far as the pre ride speech I have given a few of those in my day but never had anyone thank me. I am also just glad to know when I end up in the psych ward there will be some familiar faces there maybe we could all park the RCs next to each other and have a meet and greet out front.

Yup, I hear it, and I always listen. It's not really a voice to me, just a feeling of something being 'off'.

Yah, I used to give "the speech" too, to new riders. I just got dirty looks and the usual "I can handle this bike... blah blah.. i'm better than the bike... blah blah... try to keep up... blah blah... you're just scared... blah blah... I am the best thing to happen to a bike since rubber tires."
Those dudes always get scraped off the side of the road within a week.... usually while following my group on a 'slow' ride.
I always go slow with noob's and if they look like they're trying to win the prize given at the finish line at the end of the road, I just go slower.. painful sometimes, but it stops the wrecks, most of the time.

Yeah, I get the voice from timt to time. Got it twice for sure last year, once at the gap, just did't feel right the moment we hit the place, turned out to be a bad day for alot of people, my buudy included. Second time was last Halloween, highsided myself. Apparently the voice was out in force last Oct. 31st cause there were a few casulaties that day within the RC world.

Re: (rc51crazy)
I must say, that i've had an uneasy feeling "the voice" twice. Both times ended up in one major accident, and one minor.. For the major one, in a car, I put on a seat belt before I left. I hardly ever do that. Got T-boned and rolled an explore several times. The other minor one was on a superhawk, on 2 lane road. Car was makeing a left turn, and the car behind him jumped out to pass. He was headed for me head on. Luckly I was able to make it to the far right side of the road and we swaped mirrors. I got some minor cuts. I stayed up on the bike as well.

I do and its usually related to how I feel before the ride physically. If I stay up partying all night I'm more nevervous on the bike, make more mistakes which leads to being more nervous etc.
Now...there's another voice I hear that says "go gettem" and "you can go faster than this". Its very infrequent but it does sorta get me in the zone but the loudest it every screamed was right before I tossed my bike at the Gap.
I guess the secret is to listen to both but don't let them control you. You don't want to be too scared or too confident because both are keeping you from concentrating on riding correctly.

Ive definately heard it. Usually on a race day. A bit of superstition and gut feelings has TRULY saved me a couple of times. Why gamble. If I'm hearing the voice or having a bad feeling its a mental target fixation for a problem!

The only time I didn't listen to the "VOICE" was when I was instructed to climb the water tower with my Magnum 300 and Leopold 10x...

Re: (sauceman)
I got a vision once. This is a true story and makes the hair on my neck stand up everytime I tell it. I was going to a friends house about 3 years ago down a 55mph highway. All of a sudden I saw in my head this car running a intersection and T-boning me, I then saw myself in the hospital and then in a coffin at a funeral home. I saw this all in about 2 seconds. I immediately let my foot off the gas and the next crossroad I could see this car barreling down the road and it didn't look like it was going to stop. Guess what, it didn't and went straight through the intersection at probably about 80mph. I think the guy had to have been drunk due to the speed and totally ignoring the stop sign. He would of hit me right on my drivers side. I always listen to my gut and sixth sense when I get bad feelings. This vision saved my life! Now that my hair is standing up on my neck and I got the chills it is time to end this story. Jeremy
