IMO, the 1st one by far. The second one looks too much like the stock, ugly assed trailer light they stick on the RC from factory =oP

personally I like this one....it's by custom design. It's a bit expensive, but it's painted silver/black and the led brake is integrated with signals. Haven't gotten any feedback from anyone that already has it, but it looks nice so far. Better than the outdated square blocks the factory was so nice to stick us with!

I really like the Dassault..Robert builds with ABS (same stuff the OEM parts are made from). What's nice about ABS is it will not expand or spider crack like fiberglass. Roberts finish is by far the best I've ever seen. Check out his web site and take a look at the before/after pictures of a RC51 (which happens to be my bike).

Heres the link to the Pestana Custom design undertail..
its only available on Ebay...
http://stores.ebay.com/PESTANA-CUSTOM-DESIGN

Heres how i know:

It comes with no instructions at all but it is a very smooth and straight piece of fiberglass. I removed my entire stock undertail with no cutting but i had to make a tray to hold my battery as the pestana has no provision for it.
Please excuse my fake carbon two brothers irridium chicken strips!

is that really how your plate stayed mounted? Didn't extreme swing arm travel rip that she-it right off? The undertail and bike look great. tell me more about what you might have learned for alternative plate mounting options. While i like the Pestana...I am not so interested in removing the whole under tray and having to build a "battery box" as someone else noted!
thanks for getting back

With the blinkers that far down the undertail you don't have too many options on where to relocate your plate.

My vote goes to eurobikes, that's where I sent my money

I've never had a problem with the license plate and I've stood on the rear sets and jumped and have done a lot of spirited ridding through out the twisties without a problem. The license plate holder is made from rather "Springy" alumninum. I also put under the holder a piece of hard foam rubber, the type you use for protecting packages for shipping. I finally bent the holder at such a angle that the swing arm would have to travel over 5.5 inches to hit the bottom of the plate and I believe the swing arm travel on the RC51 is 4.7 inches, 5.1 max. If you have problems with your swing arm hitting your license plate you are running the wrong spring in the rear, your sag is set wrong and you should get this corrected. I've looked at "alternate" mounting but the cops here and most other places look for any reason to pull over and hassle sportbike riders. Like I said in a previous post when I lived in CA the cops had pictures of all the latest sportbikes and would start writting tickets base upon your modification of DOT equipment/pipes/etc. I personally believe that most alternate methods of mounting just don't look nice (hanging off the exhaust canister, flush mount to the undertail, mounting it to the battery box/tilt sensor flap, etc). With the Dassault undertail you keep the original fender/battery box and just hack off from the directions mount points backwards. You then slide the undertail under the original equipment and bolt together. Takes about a hour or two and I suggest buying a dremel.

I like the way the hotbodies one looks.. But I had one of their undertails on my previous bike, it wasn't a very good quality undertail and personally I wouldn't get another.. It took about 6 weeks to get from them, you could see some of the unfinished fiberglass on the backside of it where it curved down at the front, paint wasn't even close to the color on the bike, and the taillight was starting to fall apart after a year (although it looks like this one uses the stock taillight)..

Just a newbie's

Robert Dussault makes by far the best looking undertail available IMO,,,,, instructions are not that good, but goes together easy and is clean, just dont use the plate holder they provide, it WILL break and you WILL loose your plate.

Robert now provides (if you ask) an Aluninum License plate bracket. I was just went outside and measured. From my wheel to the bottom of my plate is 7 inches and from the top of my hugger to the bottom of my undertail is 5.5 inches. I have yet to see a sportbike with a rear suspension travel beyond 5.1 inches and I believe the RC51 is 4.7 inches MAX (I could be wrong). If you are taking your plate off with any undertail system you suspension is set up wrong (like I mention in my previous post). Most factory sport bikes from Japan are set up for 160lbs with a max of 190lbs. If you are above this weight you need to respring your bike or change out your suspension. If you are between this weight then set you sag correctly and I doubt you'll have problem unless you are off roading with your RC. Hope this helps..

My concern with the options available is that I worry about being rear-ended at a traffic light because someone didn't see my tail lights. Yeah, the stock tail lights are stupid looking, and I wish I could make it look more like Nicky's bike, but he didn't have to contend with Grandma driving a DeSoto.

Second problem is with the police stopping me because I gave them an excuse to say my bike doesn't meet the minimum state requirements. Not that this has ever happened to any of us!

The more acreage of brake lights I can get, the better. It is a trade-off that I am not happy with, but it's the one I am forced by D.C. area traffic and police to make. So I would reluctantly vote for option 2, even thought the others look a lot better. Just my
