bike selection/opinions wanted
i had a deal worked out for a mint 02 with 5k miles and some extras on it for 4500 but the guy sold it the night before i was scheduled to pick it up. so, im searching for other sp2's. i have 4 different bikes im eyeballing now and id like to get some opinions.
bike1. 02 with 7k miles sato slipons with pc3 dropped on side in garage so minor scratches on right side(supposedly) $4g's
bike2. 02 with 10k miles 2 brothers slipons, frame sliders, scotts steering damper, seargent seat, has some nicks and dings in the plastics $4900
bike3. 03 with 15.2k miles, wave rotors, yoshi slipons, stainless lines, maybe a couple other little things, cant remember. some minor scratches $4800
bike4. 04 with 14.8k miles akra slipons, pc3, excellent condition all around. and the guy is asking 5g's or best offer.
so out of these bikes what are your opinions. im really enticed by the low miles of bike 1, but the right slipon is beat up, and its the rainbow type anyway which i really dont like. so i would have to invest in new exhaust, etc...
and i also really like the 04 with the unpainted frame.
bike 3 i like the wave rotors and brakelines, etc... because its going to be a track bike anyway.
hmm, decisions decisions....

bike #4 sounds like the best deal to me. dont worry too much about mileage, these bikes, properly taken care of will run for at least 100k. as far as the 04 versus the others, it is a limited edition bike. also it comes with akrapovic cans those are not cheap in the least bit. if its in perfect condition then theres no reason to pass it up. i bought my 02 two years ago for 4750 and the only thing it had on it was a set of brand new two bros pipes. and it had 16,400 miles, but the kid who owned it babied it and it looked like it rolled out of the showroom floor. well now with around $7k dropped into it, its got 18,900 miles on it and runs like a bat out of hell and still looks museum fresh,
i would go with the 04 if i were you
but that is just my
phill
oh and btw those arent sato's in the first picture, sato never made a faded rainbow color like that, those are either moriwaki's or microns

thanks for the opinion and heads up on the exhaust. the guys ad says sato. regardless i think they are ugly anyhow... but i also wonder how well the bike might be maintained if its that freaking dirty like it is... but it has the lowest price and miles of the bunch. the 04 is the furthest drive, but the guy is willing to meet me some of the way.. just have to discuss pricing on that one first.

If it's going to be a track toy, why spend the extra $. If you do go down at the track you will want the extra you saved to repair it.
FYI: If you get one with a Corbin or Sargent seat you will not want it for doing track days. I will gladly buy it from you. I can even make a deal and include my stock seat.
The after market seats make it hard to roll off the sides quickly with the seat edge raised like a sadlle. I do many track days and always put the stock seat back on those days.
I saw this also posted on NESR, you must be a Local New Englander?
Maybe we will meet at Louden this season. I will be at all the Boston Moto trackdays!

yep, i live in ny. and i already figured that the seat at the very least would diminish feedback. i raced at loudon for a number of years as well as ccs midatlantic. had to step back and sell my stuff back in 06 as i was saving for house and a wedding. im going to start back into the track by running trackdays. i might try to hit one of tonys trackdays at loudon at some point, but i have MMC about an hour from me as well as NJMP that i plan on running. ill pick up track plastics regardless as id like to keep the stock bodywork. id like to buy a clean bike as clean bikes are typically better maintained all around. ive also been eyeballing the nesr forum for rc's too. although bodywork isnt really an issue as my father has his own bodyshop and ive always done my own custom paint work.
i am leaning strongly towards the 04.

bike #1 did not get near horizontal scratches on it by falling over sideways.
i'd offer #4 $4600 cash. usually when you waive $100 bills in someone's face they'll negotiate a bit

the 04 hands down. looks to be the cleanest of the lot. it's limited edition and tastefully modified. just make sure that all of the mechanicals are sound and pony up the cash.

haha, thats exactly what i said... i dont know what that guys deal is, but the fact that he is seeming to be a bit dishonest about the history of the bike makes me wonder.
unless something happens im set on option #4. thanks for the opinions guys.

I'd go with 4 also, it looks like someone who may have had a clue took care of it. That matters more than miles to me.

Go for bike #4, it has the european style frame and therefore must be the best decision..... the bike looks great.
I thought the akrapovic carbon slipons are breakable of the pulses and heat ?

02 is a SP2.
By the way those first two bikes look like 00-01 not 02's. I could be wrong but didnt they change the paint scheme in 02?

Go with the '04, but don't meet the guy away from his house. Go into his kitchen, and in front of the dudes wife peel off 35 $100 dollar bills on the kitchen table. DO THIS IN FRONT OF HER!!! She will be thinking new couch, and tell him to take the money, I know it's a f-upped thing to do to another guy, but I've done it several times AND IT WORKS!

Here is a cheap RC that needs paint, and you said you have that covered!
A little higher mileage than you were looking for though. HONDA RC51 FOR TRADE FOR CRF,YZF,???????
If all else fails I would choose the 04, it looks sweet.
If Scanning the NESR board or here, you can forget my RC. I decided to remove it from the sale market. I smartened up....

the 02 is the same scheme as the 00 and 01s... look at the 5 spoke rims, shiny aluminum fairing stays and the sp2 swingers...

i greatly appreciate the opinions and help. i spoke to the guy with the 04 last night, gave him a deposit and im leaving work early to pick it up today. i wont be satisfied until its in the bed of my truck, but im thinking everything should be good to go. i got it for a great price... to the point that it wouldnt make sense to buy a lesser bike. i will end up buying another tank for it, and race plastics. eventually i may put it on the street so id like to keep the original stuff looking nice.
also, the seller said he bought the bike used from an older guy who provided all service records which was good. he only had the bike for 3k miles. he also said that the akra system is a full system to his knowledge..that would be a bonus if it is, but he didnt seem to know these bikes that well.
btw, ive been hawking craigslist like a fanatic! in fact i used crazedlist.org which allows me to search multiple craigslist locations at one time. i can search the whole freaking country for one specific item with that site.. pretty badass. also checking out cycletrader (thats where the 03 was) and used bike dealers, etc.. in the northeast.
