Just for shits and giggles i looked on ebay under RC wheels and was suprized to see the prices folks are now wanting for their rims. Used to practically give away the SP1 rims and the SP2 could be picked up cheaper than the 1krr or 600rr rims. Can't figure out what in the world would make people start thinking the RC wheels are so much more expensive than they used to be???
Kind of makes me wish i had saved all my RC rims until now. Actually used to GIVE away the SP1 rims. Call me
It's mainly the front wheels that are in demand, but it certainly wasn't more expensive for me to mount up some 3 spoke wheels. I wonder if the sheer number of 600RR and 1000RR bikes compared to RC51s is causing the difference now.
The reason is simple.
They are heavy but very durable and well made.
I have a friend working at a dealership and he told me the wheels fitted to the latest Kawasakis, Yamahas etc are as light as aftermarket alloy wheels made a few years ago but quite unsuited to the open roads. They get knackered in no time...
Good topic as I am dealing with this crap right now looking a front from either model right now. I know what they're worth and i know know what I am prepared to spend on one. I sure as hell wont spend $350 on a used SP1 front wheel.
Shit, an AEM would be a better deal right now!

I agree!!! This is a subject definately up my alley!!! I,too have been looking for an SP1 front due to mine being somewhat dented from my wreck 2 yrs ago and have had no luck. But;i would rather have a set of Cazz rims or PM Machines but neither show a listing for my ride!!!!
I am still unclear as to what will fit the rc and what does and does not have to be changed? All i know is i want some lighter gold anodized PM's or Cazz's !!!!!!!!!
And,yeah,MGRN;i agree with ya on this topic %100 !

For sure the aftermarket wheels are nicer, and should come with the correct spacers to mount up, but the following stock wheels are direct replacements using the RC51 spacers: (be careful with the years, as some are matte black and some are gloss black.)
2004-2007 CBR1000RR rear wheel
2003-2006 CBR600RR front wheel
I think looks have a lot to do with it!! I think the three spoke wheels are CHEAP looking!!! I really like the 1000rr's especially in the repsol until you get down to the wheels. The RC wheels have a much more tasteful and racey look. I don't recall any of the race teams using 3 spoke wheels ( correct me if I'm wrong). My . Hoovy

You are pretty close.
All recent 1000s and 600s have unbelievably light wheels as stock. The problem is these wheels are also made to a budget. Marchesini can ask 2400€ for a set of alloy wheels which are both light and durable no problem. Honda and Kawasaki contractors cannot. On the 1000RR they managed to compromise durability as little as possible by opting for a three spokes design. Not classy but will last longer than most others.
What is really funny is that the SP1 wheels are more expensive brand new than the SP2 wheels. $485 SP1 vs $401 SP2 gloss or $405 matte for front wheels.
I agree that the cbr community may be driving up prices. Our wheels are a better looking alternative to what they have, and they are cheaper than anything aftermarket. Throw some paint or powdercoat on them and they look pretty good. And (to me anyways) they look close to the old five spoke Marchesini's if you don't get too close and see the oem stampings.
What is great about the situation is that if you want to sell your old wheels and pick up some new ones, they will account for about 1/4 to 1/2 the cost depending on what you sell them for and what you buy.
I was thinking about buying some wheels but I'll probably just powdercoat mine gloss black and wait until I find some OZ racing wheels. Which, as far as I know, aren't made anymore?

Three-spokes are ugly.
General rule: the more spokes the better.

Yup... that's why I tried to jump on the CR damaged wheel for $100. I'm in the same boat as Kurt; I need a spare front, but since I already have a primary one, I'm just not willing to spend $200 on a spare. Deals are out there though; I picked up a spare SP2 rear with a functionally insignificant dent for under $100 shipped last year.
