Default track day cameras

Just curious what you guys are using and how they are mounted? I want to find which brands and models are most common for a little project I'm working on.

excellent, thank you. I'm looking more for the bullet style cams, but if need be I can work with these too.

Skies the limit, all depends on how much you have to spend and what quality you are looking for.

Bullet cameras will have a lot of cables, the camera will be good quality but you will need a good recording device too.

GoPro's are fantastic for a all in one unit. They're releasing a HD version very soon, which looks amazing. You wont get a Bullet cam the same quality.

Theres plenty of cheap cameras too. I have a AEE MD-80, $55 delivered and you wont believe how small it is!

It wont win any quality awards but for the price its good

Default GoPro

I have the GoPro and love it. It is a great unit. What sold me on it more then anything about it, was the vast mounting locations you can use it in. You can mount it to your tank, windscreen, front fairing, rear seat cowl, tail section, even upside down! I paid less the 145 for the current version plus the motorsports mount. That thing rocks!!!

gopro has a hi-def cam for under $300 and in the housing it's almost indestructible. here's a vid we shot last month with a low-resolution (old model) gopro mounted on the front of about a 600-700hp dirt track late model. you can see there's almost zero shake or anything even under these conditions. just wish i would've held off a few months and got the hi-def one

http://lcspeedway.net/10-11-09-larrygray.wmv

also held steady on a frontal crash as you could see in the video. and about 15-20 minutes in iirc you can see one of the other drivers get up on the wall and roll the car

here it is mounted on my bike, the best places i've found to mount it are right there on the side., right above the headlight, then of course on the top of the tail. i think i've still got some footage of it from that day at the dragon, let me see if i can find it

I would also recommend the GoPro if its within your price range, but dont pay over the odds for a GoPro SD as the HD version is out now so you would expect the SD one to come down.

Go for the MotorSports version and the WIDE one because it records everything!, you can use it to record some awesome places.

Heres a vid I did in the summer, it changes to the next angles at about 4:20.

The sound is a little up and down. When its within its 'comfort zone' the sound is very good but soon as it's a little to much it'll hiss/pop etc.
For instance the sound was perfect on the wifes bike YouTube - Kelly Donington Trackday B1h 636 but the same day on my bike it popped. Its not the exhaust noise (Mine had a standard system and she had a Akra race can) but more the air hitting the unit in the wrong place.

these are the adhesive ones. we put the cam on the roof of another late model dirt car with the adhesive mount -- i was hoping it flew off and busted so i had a reason to buy the new hd one. it held on through 2 wall smacks at about 90-100mph and a head on hit that destroyed the front clip of the car, only thing the camera did was spin upwards cause of the hinge and the sticky mount had to be removed by cutting through it with fishing line

those front rotors are the el cheapo ebay ones. they work fantastic, with oem pads they had some pulsing on medium to light braking but switching over to the ebc pads that don't have a slit through the middle of the pad, removed all pulsing.

So when you guys watch your videos at home do they look better? Doesn't the quality take a hit when viewed on YouTube?
