Yeah been thinking a little more about getting some more tracktime, and here is the thing.
We are pretty f'ed with taxes in Denmark, meaning a road-licenced VTR like mine is about 25,000 USD.
A non-taxed VTR is of course much cheaper, about 6000 USD street legal, but without taxes allowing it for the street.
Im split about getting track plastics for my VTR so I can use the bike with all the nice gizmo's Ive mounted, or a cheap trackbike like a CBR600F or similiar to 3000 USD.
I know its impossible to make a rule, but how often is the more expensive stuff on the VTR (frame, forks etc) damaged in a crash on track?
Is it usually only the plastics and clipons that take the pounding?
Get a dedicated track bike like the CBR600F and keep your nice RC51 to enjoy on the street. RC51s just don't crash well and one minor lowside could mean tank, rad, clip on, upper, casing, exhausts...all phenomenally expensive parts from Honda.
A friend of mine just lowsided his RC51 at Pacific Raceway and the damages are pretty much what I listed above; not including other hidden stuff.
I wasn't comfortable with tracking my mint RC also. So I bought a Suzuki SV650 completely set up for racing. It's a blast to ride....as much fun as a 51. Plus it was only $3500....about what a simple highside would cost in 51 parts....easy on fuel, tires, and lightweight.
I did my first track day earlier this year on my RC51 and then made the decision to buy a slightly used CBR600RR for track duty earlier this year and to keep the RC51 for street use only. I have not regretted this decision at all. The CBR has been a great bike to get acquainted with track riding.
I am planning to pick up some race body work over the winter and a few other items to improve it for the track, but for now the CBR has been great for the half dozen track days I have put on it this year. Here’s a couple pics of my CBR. I will also be at Mid-Ohio this Monday (9/28). I may ride on Tuesday as well if the weather holds up…
I say get a second RC for the track but I may be a bit biased I've put my track bike down twice in the last few years its a track bike so I just bondo her up and hit her with some of walmarts finest black paint and Im right back out
I've known several people who've had Street RC51's and tracked them.
When they wadded it, they were never happy.
Sad to say, for any number of reasons from limited availability/production numbers to just having 2 of everything to wreck - the RC is an expensive bike to rebuild.

One set of radiators will make your head spin.
+1 what Heist said, plus you can bet your both nuts that your tank, your at least one pipe(if you running dual exhaust)and forks... going to get beating!!!
Ask me how i know this

+1 the Rc is just expensive to track it out and its not as fast as the I4 600s. I tracked out my RC and spend as much as any crazys here did and still I was not happy about the way it handle and about the weight. I too lowsided on my RC51 while I was asphalt surfing I watch my RC flipper over. Lets just say its very very expensive. I should of just left it as a super fixed up street bike I soon grew old of it and sold it. Now I have a 2003 ZX6rr just as fast and more fun.
However its been like 2 or 3 years since I sold my RC and I want one AGAIN, but then I ask my self what am I going to do with this fat pig. I know I just have this love and hate thing with the RC.
