Seems like since I bought my RC back in December I've spent more time rebuilding it rather than riding it. When I first bought the bike I pretty much knew it had been wrecked before, even though he wouldn't admit it. But got a good deal on it considering it was visited by the sticker fairy and was butt-ugly.
So I spent a good couple of months making the bike "my own" before I could get any enjoyment riding it. Being in Ohio the weather played a big factor in when I could re-spray the bike, as spraying indoors wasn't an option considering the other toys that sat inside. After buying the bike in December, not until early April did I get a chance to ride the bike consistantly and learn her awesome personality. I quickly grew fond of its grunt and sound.
But as I usually do once with every bike I've owned, I drifted off into Lala Land while riding and found myself drifting off the road and cart-wheeling into a grassy field. When I stood up and seen a headlight go rolling past me I knew it wasn't good. This was back in April and here is where I stand as of now.
Everytime I've wrecked a bike I've brought it back nicer and faster, so I'm trying to do the same with this bike. Fairings, snorkel, clutch master, brake master, right side radiator, and windscreen were all toast. Gas tank was dented and as I stripped it down I discovered it had been repaired before, so Varium sent me a minty '05 tank. Marxist also sent me another snorkel, so special thanks to those guys. Bike needed a PCIII so it got one of those as well. Some Sato frame sliders were picked up from a member on her but I forget who, so thanks to you as well. Forks and wheels all seem to be straight, a $12 night at the local drag strip will be in order to make sure before I go to Mid-Ohio and waste a $190 track day to discover something is tweaked.
I replaced the master cylinders on clutch and brake sides, upgrading the brakes to a '05 cbr1000rr unit with some Spiegler lines. I also shortened the Jardine carbon can as it go busted up a bit, and looks better I think. I also need another gauge face if anybody has one, looks like I can order a new one for about $66. So other than that the only thing I need to finish is some plastics. I've decided to go with track plastics as this bike was purchased with the intent of being my appointed track toy.
I'm looking for advice and opinions on which brand to go with and also how to make the bike look. As of now I'm hearing that Cheetah is the best bang for the buck and to stay away from Hotbodies and cheap ebay knockoffs. And I'm also looking into having everything wrapped instead of painted, any thoughts or experiance with this?
Its ever changing isn't it. And its some what of a madness only limited by your credit card limit
I like the shortie can, that's a 2-1? I bet its pretty loud! Since your in it, scoop up a carbon airbox(or glass), they really open up the whole range with attention to the mid range. I'd also suggest suspension changes to the rear, a link and anything but the stocker...you can make the bike turn in WAY better than stock.
Good luck with the rebuild, this is definately the place to find spares. At least you got your bike looking good, that stickerfest about made me puke!!!

Never owned a credit card nor will I ever! This is all cash as I come up with it. Yeah its a Jardine 2-1 and its loud but my god its so crisp, sounds awesome IMO. Those are all mods I have planned, but will probably have to wait for later. As of right now all I'm trying to do is get it back so I can get some dang track time in this year...I'm goin nuts! (Forks have already been worked by Hord, I'll probably have him whip me up a Penske rear when the time comes)

Thanks for the comments and yeah...as soon as I got the bike home the stickers started coming off! It actually didn't look half bad in flat black, but the marks from all the stickers weren't going away.
Keep up posted on the rebuild, I am getting ready to start a semi-custom RC creation myself...I think I have a set of good track bodywork if you are interested.

I'll PM you sometime soon about that bodywork, hopefully this week if I got the money. And like I said before, I'll be interested in some of your radial adaptors next winter. I think maybe the clutch master I got off of ebay came from you as well, so thanks.
Got some Cheetah bodywork in yesterday, started to get everything drilled and mocked up. It's not going too bad, but I can see where Sharkskinz or Armour can improve greatly on the fitment. It works and thats all that matters. The tail section is a PITA to mount with the lip cupping underneathe, a chopped subframe might be in the future. I haven't touched the belly pan yet, I forgot to order some Dzus fasteners so those are on the way. I also need to do some hole-sawing for the Sato frame sliders. Also had to shim some of the mounting bolts to get a snug fit. CBR1000rr reservoir will have to be tweaked, or clip-ons lowered. I originally planned on not using an upper fairing stay because I would no longer need mirrors. However now that I have the plastics I realize the fairing won't be strong enough against the wind without it. The kickstand also had to go, will one of those motocross traingles work? Thats it for now
As it stands as of tonight. I was able to sneak a trackday in there while the bike was still primered. LOVE THIS BIKE! A decal kit like what you seen on the bike when it was red will be added (in white), along with some number plates and just a few poser stickers probably along the bottom of the bike.
Tail section didn't turn out very well, so eventually I'll re-do it. Rest of it turned out decent for just a bunch of rattle cans.
Something just happened between Mid Ohio and STT. All the MO dates with STT just vanished, and nobody is saying why. The speculation is MO wants to run it's own motorcycle trackday. Grattan is definately a fun track, especially counter direction (it has a jump) Never been to Nelson, but hopefully next month. There's a track about 40 minutes west of Indy that's a blast to ride....Putnam.

Really? Interesting...well I'm glad I got some of my STT instructor tips when I was going. I really don't care who holds the trackdays...as long as I get to ride it!
I've watched some videos on Grattan and it looks kinda scary...which looks like fun!
Hmmm I may have to add Putnam to the list. Too bad its not 40 miles east of Indy. That would be a hop, skip, and a jump for me then.
Got some decals on it today, broke up some of the black and looks killer IMO. I never like to put company stickers on my toys but I thought what the heck, its a track bike and I think they look good down there on the bottom. Only thing left cosmetically I think I wanna do is put some number plates on it, even though as of now I'm not doing any kind of competitive racing (I'm slow ).
Now it will be time to do some improvements performance wise since I got it cosmetically sorted out.
#1) I want to put Rothmans radial conversion on the front.
#2) I'd like to get some aftermarket clip-ons as the stockers feel heavy
#3) I REALLY wanna clean up the subframe area and move everything down below the bike, but the task seems somewhat intimidating even to someone like me who is mechanically inclined.
#4) Eventually I want to get an aftermarket shock and linkage as I hear this is a very worthwhile mod.
The list goes on and on like some Brembo clutch and brake M/C's and rearsets and etc. etc....but those are the ones I'm going to try to focus on first. I'm always open to suggestions!
Also on a side note I took it to the local drag strip to see what it would run. A 11.119 @ 128 mph aint bad, but with some more launch practice 10's would be easy. But who cares...thats not what these bikes are built for
