so i did the last track day on tuesday at nj motorsports park figures why not hit the drag strip Wednesday night and abuse the center of the tire. the track is 3mi from my house just left the bike in the truck. made a couple passes 11.30's close to 130mph. they have scales on the return road so i stopped the pig on them expecting to see a big number. i was plesently suprised that total weight was 586 with me on it obviously. with gear im probably around 200, 180-185 without. so in race trim with 1/2 tank gas will say its about 390lbs
oh boy thats a long list but nothing special really. its a sp1 with sp2 wheels, swingarm, ti. slip on, moriwaki carbon airbox, rad fan, pair system, clip ons. really didnt go crazy trying to lighten things up like chopping up the wire harness. dont know how accurate the scale was either. considering the amount of national events they run at the track its got to be close
Nice 1/4mile numbers man,.. especially if you haven't or don't do much drag racing...
Now My on the 390lbs... I find that really hard to believe (I am NOT saying your lying) I just think that scale might be off alittle , that's all and let me tell you why,... You've got OEM rims and by your own acount, you've done nothing with the wiring harness,... You've got OEM Disc brakes, You've got OEM rads. minus 1 fan,...
Your "rear" disc brake looks like it "might have" been drilled to make it lighter,(hard to see with this picture) but you've added weight too, with your frame sliders,... that's STILL, extra weight gained ... You're still running the OEM seat... & OEM brake and lever... but the Clutch Lever I'll question since I can't see it?
So what is Obvious weight reductions, #1 Race body work, = #2 NO head lights. #3 Your Slip-ons, #4 You've got Clip-ons and Rear-sets both of those drop weight, #5 No blinkers, I'm guessing with this one> #6 "No brake lights"?
The Air Box... Thorsten's and Brett's airboxes drop some good weight, 7lbs!.. Yours "moriwaki carbon airbox" I don't think it can be as light as the previous 2 but good weight saving all the same.
Doug, have you done the "Small Battery" mod.? 3 to 4lbs just with the batt. right there, ready to be got, if you haven't already, (You SHOULD do it, the batt. mod. min., since you're tracking her!)and IF you do "JUST" the batt.cables and the small things with the batt. you're talking another 1.5 to 2, 2.5lbs ...
Looks like you're running the OEM shock as well? After market shock,"Ohlins" anyhow drop some weight... others I don't know..
I just don't see her being even close to 390lbs,.. I could believe maybe 430,.. 420s pushing it... Unless fairings and heahlights alot heavier then I remember...
Doug, Would you like to weight her on a good = Accurate scale? Let me know,....
After writting this all out, then it hits me... You said "with 1/2 a tank of gas".. still naaa "Maybe 420"...maybe. hahahaaa
I'm saying this because, I've Studied Thorsten's RC51 which was right at 390lbs,.. and he put alot of Thought and Work into it, big time on How to get it there,.. Wasn't easy at all,...

like i said, who knows how accurate the scale is and was suprised by the weight. its track only so no lights anywhere, light battery, no rad fans, penski shock, i doubt it was 390. the mori airbox does get rid of the thermostat and some plumbing so its probably close to thorston box. 420-430 i would have no problem believing. sport rider list the sp1 at 461 with no gas. did weigh it with the bathroom scales at 205r and 210f, even that gets me 30lb less then stock.

While this would certainly be nice, I also have doubts that this was accurate.
At the last ASRA round I weighed my RC which has every possible weight reduction thing done to it including Ti bolts and carbon everything...
It was weighed 3 times in a row, with a low of 397 and a high of 399.5.
This was with almost a full tank- there was fuel visible at the top of the filler.
*I can envision taking another 15 lbs off using Ti engine mounts and spacers, axles, and pivots, as well as Magnesium or Carbon wheels.*
*Also, I was using Erion canisters which are not light, so that could free up 3-4lbs.*
As you know, the ASRA scales are calibrated at each event and are used to determine legality of machines. I was a bit disappointed to see that all the time and money I spent making the bike light still put it roughly on par with a SuperStock style 1098...

I believe gas weighs around 6-8lbs depending on its blend and the temp. But a good average is a normal gas pump 92 octane blend at around 70 degrees weighs about 6.25 lbs.
So, if you have a full tank and he OP had half a tank, then there is over 12lbs right there.
Weighed mine at the scales at work with as full of a tank of gas I could get while still riding 8 miles there in street trim and it was 436lbs. Race glass definitely sheds a bit off. I never run it anywhere near that with fuel and I don't have much done in terms of weight loss other then standard stuff. Was looking to sell and put the stock exhaust on and DAMN!!! That right there adds like 15 lbs per side.
While this would certainly be nice, I also have doubts that this was accurate.

What is really sickening is that Thorsten shaved 108 lbs from the OEM 408 lbs 1098 down to 300 lbs with 2.5 Liters fuel and could possibly be lighter! Check out his website. Durbahn 1098 under where V3 weights are listed. Man that bike must be a serious missle!
