How much of the same shit can you read over and over? So many n00bs asking the same damn question day after day, week after week...... Noobs used to be put in check immediately, now they run rampant.

I think moreless EVERYTHING regarding the RC51 is already answered here.
CONSIDERED the Q's reg. the RC51 within a normal mod/service-Area.
Times have changed, the RC51 was born 2000..... when PC's have had 10Gb Hardrives as premium PC ( am I right ? )
Note, we write 2008, and - as far as you would like to be cutting edge with your race RC- all the latest mods ( as shaving weight is a precondition anyway ) are inside Electronics. But people here , at least my Perception is , are not very familiar with that new Area, so there's not a lot for me at least to answer ( as the weight saving mods are all available here by the search Function ).
Some hints plain:
- you use the Bike for commuting : leave it as it is
- Track ? : make it light first
- you wanna be fast on track : Airbox/Pistons/Engine Work/Suspension
- wanna be competitive : Traction control is the way to go ( but I assume I'm talking to walls, as for the dough.......... )

ALL Newbs and FNG's take note, THAT was the voice of GOD as far as RC's are concerned. There may be a few things that Thorsten does not know about making RC's fast, but whatever they are, aren't important...

I'm into Jeeps and off-roading (just sold my baby, 83 CJ-7, to pay some bills and afford some mods for the RC51) and the couple forums I belonged to showed a W I D E range of Jeepers. from guys that just liked something they could put the top down in the summer time and to have 4 wheel drive in the winter (practical), up through the hardcore rock crawlers that have vehicles that barely resemble Jeeps anymore. Every single one of these people were "True" Jeepers, they just enjoyed their Jeeps in different ways.
The very second someone is only allowed to enjoy a certain vehicle ONLY one way, the support and interest in that vehicle dies to the point that there are no more aftermarket parts for them, no more people that want to purchase them, and in the end, no one left that wants to race them 'cause they are too hard to get parts for.
There are limits to this...Jeepers look at the guys that lower and put stupid tuner wings on Jeeps, the same way we look at guys that lower and stretch RC-51's. Some things just do not need to be done to certain machines!

Agreed,Thorston has pulled every OZ. of performance out of this platform
90% of motorcyclists / commuters would not suffer with a stock rc.
The other 10% are left with a need where bike FEEL is tantamount.

From using other forums over the years, I have a few suggestions that might make this one a little less "squidy":
1. Moderators: Start making more of the common questions into "stickys". The only ones that I can think of for right now (as I have only owned an RC for three weeks) are:
a) the CBR600 mudflap or hugger, whatever you want to call it;
b) maybe a break-down of which flushmount turn signals are "best" and estimated costs of them as that is always a factor and a note of which ones are crap. I've seen this question a few times already.
c) umm, that last post from thorsten, maybe with a little more detail or just more reading material for people new to the world of RC's. I understand what he is saying there, and I don't need any further info as I fall into his first category, but others might want more information.
d) Who sells carbon? opinions on what is crap, what is not. I know this can get a little tense, as a few of your sponsors sell directly off this site.
e) Who sells XXXXXXX? again, opinions on what is crap, what is not.
2. Someone in this thread mentioned that you used to have a "lounge" here. Bring it back, that gives people a place other than "RC-51 General Discussion" to post their latest prank on their boss, or a funny video or picture they found. That will keep the clutter down, or at least somewhere else.
3. Create a "New Member Section". This will give people a place to introduce themselves, and to ask stupid questions that could probably be answered with the search function. Then, when you senior members that already know just about everything about the RC (and I am serious) get on the forum, you (the senior members) don't have to sift through 25 threads about flushmounts, synthetic oil, sprocket sizes, hid kits, carbon fiber, and what-not. If you don't want to answer questions like that, then you don't have to go there. IF a new guy posts a new thread in the "General Discussion" or "Technical Discussion" sections, then the moderators could just move it to the "New Member" section.
4. When someone starts a new thread and the first 10 responses are "do a search", the moderators need to delete that thread. The reason why: The next guy who comes along and tries to search for the same thing, finds 50 threads that are telling the thread starter to "do a search". Then he gets tired of reading threads like that and starts his own (only to be told that he needs to search). The cycle continues until heads explode, or people stop using the forum.
5. Moderators need to move stuff where it belongs. I don't know this site's current condition, or how many moderators they have. I am not trying to bash anyone here either. If you create the things I listed above, it won't do any good if you don't move things where they belong and keep up with everything.
Trust me guys, these suggestions will help out a lot. After years of being on a Toyota off-road forum, I got tired of answering the same questions over and over again too. There are only so many times that you can tell people why they shouldn't buy "hid kits", why most "lift kits" are a total waste of money, which tire is best for mud/sand/rocks, why do 4runners get crappy gas mileage, and who makes the best headlights?.
I have started to go there less and less, as I get tired of the drama, and people who post questions and don't like the answers (yes your hid kit is crap and you are blinding people, even if they don't flash you with their high-beams. Yes if you want real hid's you need to do proper retrofit, yes it will cost more) then they bitch about it. There really isn't a solution to that other than banning or ignoring the flamers, or not allowing new members.
Every once and a while you get the chance to actually help someone out who has a problem that hasn't been addressed in the past. When it is something can't be found with the search, or already hasn't been posted in a sticky, that is where the senior members come in.
I like the forum so far guys, lots of good info. Maybe my skills (sifting through crap) from the last forum have helped me ignore the bs?

so who deletes threads and crap, and decides what gets "stickied" and keeps the site up and running?
Just kind of curious, as all the other forums I've been on have at least half a dozen moderators. It gets really interesting when they start fighting.
Troll spray, that's nice, I haven't seen that one before.

I've met Dave The Administrator twice at trackdays spoke breifly about how hard it is to buy speedzilla t-shirts and why he seldom posts. I guess he's got a new baby is into supermotard and he pretty much lets the site run itself.
Some guys like hardcharger put up their own sites
this is site kicks ass and no-one ever has to re-read anything.
Except tex it takes him a bit longer to think.

What sites am I on?
Yamaha R1 Forum
YotaTech
PNW Riders
HID Planet
and probably a couple other ones that I can't remember. I guess you could say that I'm a "forum whore" The toyota and R1 ones are where I used to spend most of my interweb time.
If you were asking if I was a mod on any of them, I'm not. Never really thought about trying it either.

yeah, that's true, I guess I really didn't think about how many members are over there. I guess it's reflected in how many ads they have too
after selling my R1, I still go there every once and a while, usually to sell or buy non-bike specific stuff though

I think there are some great people on this site which is the reason I keep coming back. guys like mondial, mark, eyeP, simon etc etc etc, are the reason I'm still here. you're goin to have squids anywhere. I think almost every rider starts as some sort of a "squid" just out of lack of knowledge. I think its our jobs as serious riders to point them in the right direction. I mean i've seen it happen hundreds of times on 1000rr.net with guys goin from fake carbon windscreens, and chicken strips enough to feed a small army to doin 10 trackdays a year and their bike is a full on track bike simply due to input by more experienced riders and guys who are genuinely enthusiastic and give them good feedback. anyways just my .02.
or you more "serious" guys could always go to my site
