I was sitting at the airport here in Orlando, where I work. I was out at the gates just relaxing on a break and talking on my phone. I'm watching people walk by and see a face that is immediately familiar, he's somebody important, but I can't place him. Then my heart rate quickens 2 seconds later when it clicks as to who he is. I grab my bag and rush to follow him. I ride the tram back over to the main terminal, just making sure to myself that it's really him. He's with his wife, daughter, and son. His daughter waves at me as most children do because they think I'm a cop in my TSA uniform. As we're getting off the tram I actually mutter something to his wife, "Could you do me a huge favor and take my picture with Colin?" She smiles and takes a picture with my very crappy phone. I ask what he's doing in town, and he says there's dealer convention or something and he's doing PR stuff. I thank him for his time and wish him luck on the upcoming race. What a nice guy. Great attitude.
As I watch him and his family walk away towards the bag claim, I realize that he's waking around like a normal person. Drawing no attention from the general public like most celebrities do when they walk through this airport. Then it hits me that I'm probably the only person in the airport at that time who knew who he was.......that made it all the more special
I love motorcycling and what it's introduced me to. I want it to become more mainstream but at the same time I enjoy the exclusivity of it. Motorcyclist have a connection because of our passion, I hope regardless of our popularity that it remains the same.
I had a similar encounter at the Chicago Airport. My brother and I were returning from the Fontana AMA a few years back, and had a layover in Chicago. I went to the water fountain, took a drink, turned around and was face to face with Nicky Hayden. I bs'd with him a bit. He was also returning from Fontucky, heading back home, then off to Africa. My brother saw me talking to him, but he knew exactly who it was by the Repsol backpack he was carrying, and ran over too. Just imagine how hard it would be for Rossi to walk around in a european airport without running into a mob, then look at it over here. Only a select few would recognize a world class racer.

Colin is a real crowd pleaser. He pressed the flesh so to speak at Laguna constantly. very honest and friendly guy.
I recall my meeting him in Turkey at the Motogp, not that i was hangin out waiting on him. But he saw me outside the garage and gave me the 1 finger to wait deal.
I did and he apologozed for the wait and signed 2 autographs for me.
was a great guy and i thank him for it.
met him a few years back at msr cresson.
i was there with some friends and fellow riders doing a trackday. he walked around talking to everyone giving advise and just hanging out.

dude thats sweet what a small world, i live in daytona and travel out of MCO a lot. I once sat next to E bos on a flight from Mco to hobby years ago, talked the entire time about everything but racing for the 2 hour flight, he was at a test session @ daytona heading somewhere with the 200 weeks away. exchanged contact info and he totally hooked us up @ daytona with hot pit passes etc Awesome racer and a great person, i had a totally new found respect for the bos boys after that.
We saw him at Mugello in front of the hospitality trucks, and he was getting MOBBED. They apparently know who he is in Italy.
We just said what up? As he walked past with a caravan of anxious fans. Actually Colin and his lil girl got seperated by over zelous fanatics and he stopped to try and find his daughter when my boy yelled to Colin, "Colin she's over here", Colin, relieved said "thanks bro", but he took it all in stride and made his way to his motor home. After bearing witness to that we could'nt bring our selves to burden him further.
Some times you have to remember it may be entertainment for us schmoe's but to them its their life.
