Ok so I am bored here at work and surfing You tube. Watched this guy change his stock pipes with aftermarket. Right at the end of the video he turned his bike 180 and then rode off....and here I always backed mine out of the garage.....
I started doing that when I saw it done on the first Las Vegas Extremes Video....

I can't see the video because I am at work, but if all he is doing is rotating the bike on the kickstand, it's not a big deal. I do it daily with the 51, and have done it for years with previous bikes without a problem. It actually comes in handy pretty often when moving your bike in and out of tight spots.
You know I was wondering about that. The RC is one heavy ass bike and there really does not seem to be a lot of strength there for such maneuvers. While it looks cool I think I will stick with just backing it up.

I've done that for the last 30 years. (no shit....I'm 44 years old) and never once broke, or seen a broken kickstand because of it. It's taught in our local (PA) MSF course....
That's how I get my bike in/out of my garage half the time......... Even after I lengthen them, (kickstands) I haven't seen an issue regarding breakage.

Baaaaad welders in AZ, Scott......... My "not seen" is only my experience. I can see how it happens, watching mine flex like it does, when I pivot the bike on it....... Not discrediting you, Scott.......
I've also done it for numerous years, and talk about heavy bikes; i've done it with my vfr since the day I bought it. not a good idea on asphalt driveways though. KInda makes little divots.

I have seen it, not to long ago someone posted pics of a bike that the bolt holding the stand on broke off & the dude dropped the bike on her side with damage you would expect from a minor spill
I am sure they do bend or break from time to time....I have been doing it for years with no problem...even with the porky RC....first time I saw it was years ago in that Taiwanese flick with the NSR's.....ofcourse the NSR is quite a bit lighter.

+1 on Rigor's reply, only I've been riding on the street for 16 yrs. Pivoting on the side stands is safer (in my opinion) than walking backwards and trying to keep the bike rolling. Some bikes have the wrong shaped kickstand and pivoting doesn't work (like most Suzuki's). I also like doing it that way because it trips people out who don't know how!
Most of the time it's the foot that brakes off but some of the Yamaha's have aluminum kickstands and the owners don't know it until snap, just look how skinny an R1 stand is. But I do work on a dozen or more bikes a week so I see alot of stuff you would never believe unless you saw it in person.
