Default Got a suprise in the mail

So you all know I low sided my bike a bit ago right. Well I bought it back from the insurance co because I really like the RC, blah, blah, blah. One of the reasons I choose to buy it back was the claims guy said since I was keeping possesion of the bike it wouldn't be branded salvage. It says nothing in the settlement papers about it being reported to the state. Guess what I got iin the mail last week? A salvage title from the state of WI. I tried calling the claims rep last week a couple times and got no reply. Called again today and got voicemail again but this time got an option to talk to another team member so I did, which got me a call back from his manager.
She's nice, polite, etc. and asks what I want if she can't get the salvage brand removed, (side note it is an insane pain in the ass to get the bike legal again, fees, reciepts for all major parts with VIN from the bike they came off of, inspection by the state patrol, etc) I say I don't know right now. Which is where my question to you guys comes in.
What is reasonable to ask for? I paid 2200.00 to buy it back thinking I would fix it up to better than new with ebay and the classifieds here and did. (Thanks everyone) I also figured I could sell it in a couple years for average retail. With a salvage title I am going to take a 30 or 40% hit on value. I'm thinking the 2200.00 since that gets me back to even when I sell it someday or the price of a clean titled frame. What do frames with clean titles go for? Anybody got one for sale? Am I being reasonable? Thank for the input in advance.

Wait........
You total it.........
Buy it back........cause it's not salvage if you buy it back
Now you want to sell it as a clean title.......

If that were the case then there would be a whole industry of turds buying at wholesale........totaling the thing for replacement value ....retail $$..... (ie. water damage) then buying it back at a fraction of the retail price ........then selling clean.....that's %80-100 gain.....!

C'mon man..........

There's no way the insurance company is going to clear that bike. If they said they could then they lied.

If you wack the thing...........and pay out of pocket to repair then.......it retains its' clean title. As soon as the insurance company gets involved then, Totaled=Salvage

If you reframe it with a clean titled frame. ~$1500 then you could sell on that title.

Note to used bike buyers..... it's important to make sure your numbers match up and negotiate accordingly

Scott, you ride it like you stole it and you'll never sell it anyway

Insurance companies are run by wannabe lawyers that could not pass the bar, they lied to you.
To the point my ysr's and trail 70's and enduros ALL became a pain in the ass to attempt to title period even my '86 tt600 that I bought brand new. They provided a plate and tab but the title was pending a dot inspection, you got a great bike with a title and came out ahead (mebbie)

Put it in the win colum and ride

B.T.W. pilot powers are 250.00 mounted if you want a set

JZ,
You're right I crashed it. First crash in over 30K miles. They totaled it due to the body work and muffler damage, there was no damage to wheels, forks, frame or swingarm. Boy howdy is Honda proud of the upper cowling, tail piece and mufflers. I understand what you're saying, I'm just kinda cranky he lied to me or was ignorant of the rules. If I had known then what I know now I would have probably taken the whole buyout and bought a different RC or an Aprillia RSV Factory that was for sale on a local board. Or maybe I would have bought it back as a long term project to turn into a track bike and bought a cheap street bike.

wingnutt,
I do not!!! I ride it like the delicate flower it is. Lemme borrow yours I'll show you what riding a stolen bike looks like. Dude I got a set of Qualifiers in my garage so I don't need tires till next year probably.
PS I got a job again. Start next week, gotta commute to the Burnsville/Savage border but it looks to be a good shop with lots of potential. I may be able to afford that 15 tooth sprocket yet.

Its unfortunate they would tell you that cause they all know its not true. The ONLY reason a title would ever come back form an insurance total is if someone forgot to demand title and send in the paperwork to the state for a salvage brand. Even then, if they catch it after the fact they can still come back for the title or get a rebranding.
I would think asking for what you paid for the bike is fair and reasonable. After all they did total it out so nobody will be out any money. It smore trouble for them to pay a wrecker to come pick up the bike, pay storage fees, run it through an auction, and redo paperwork. It would cost them money to come pick up the bike now.
If they did want to pick it up then you should strip the bitch down and let them pick up whats left. If you need a clean frame let me know.

I found myself in a similar situation here recently. I blew a turn and layed it down in a corn field. Insurance totalled it out. (Tail, upper, lower, brake pedal, master cyl., jardine can, & swing arm as the impact pushed the can in a bit and when I rode it home the sa was hitting the can leaving a small nick) I paid 5500 for the bike. They gave me 6300 in replacement value. I bought it back for 1500. Put 800 into it. Ended up with a good as new RC (minus a nicked swinger) for a total of $1500. Yeah, they salvaged the title, but I am not going to complain. I have never seen a bike for 1500 that is anything like my RC. Now I don't have to be so scared to do a track day. I know I can sell it for double that when it comes down to it (which I probable won't do) so no worries. Just ride it and when you lay it down again, dust it off, and ride a little harder.

Did you insurance rates go up at all? Try getting insurance again when they asked if you have made any claims....what seems like a good deal now may not end up being that great down the road when it comes time to pay insurance premiums....but maybe you will get lucky and they will not go up.

Kinda curious to those who have made claims when the bike gets wadded and it is your fault...did your premiums go up afterwards?

No. They said they will not go up any. I made sure of this before I made a claim. I am sure if I have another claim it will be a different story. At first they said it would go up 10% as they were quoting what happens with a car, but when after they checked, they said for bikes, it will not go up at all.

Progressive called today and said it's all fixed. Someone in the insurance co.s salvage division made a mistake evidently. The way it was explained to me is if the damage exceeds 70% of the value of the bike it is salvage, mine was around 67% so the state shouldn't have been notified. It appears that the cost of my protective gear was added to the bike damage or something like that. New paperwork is on the way.

What is this scooter trash you speak of fair knight of the wings?
I know it is traitorish but I really like the idea of an American sportbike and with a real engine it's gonna be hard to resist.

It is simply a rub... a light hearted attempt at humor.
The fact remains "If it puts the wind in your sails ...It's all good"

B.T.W. "blackie" is coming home. I tracked down my "89 FJ !@"
she pulls a tich harder than the rc. IT is a yamamaha.

no brakes ,shifts like a M-22 ,and don't steer fur shit

My '84 1100 got wasted by a douche that paid cash I owned it since '85
One fifth gear idler two second gears and three shift forks later it was time to set it free.(and the seat was wore out too )
Point is I miss it bad and if you let your "dialed in" rc go you're gonna miss it baaad
