Default Thermostat plug question.

Hey yall, I am at a standstill with my project because the rubber cap I used to cap off the unused spout of the thermostat for my front mounts has come off due to inadequate saftey wiring, then split due to a hose clamp.

I have limited space under the frame spar and above the crank case to accesss this spout but desperately need to get it plugged/capped so I can make it on its maiden ride this sunday.

It will need to be resistant to the pressure that our cooling systems put out and to the temperatures that it produces.

Here is a pic of my first attempt.

any ideas or help will be appreciated.

Stunna

Some auto parts stores sell a plug for the heater core hose that should fit that. Try NAPA.....

Go to the Depot and get a scrap of copper pipe that fits the ID of the outlet hose. Sweat a copper cap on the pipe, trim to length.
Two hose clamps and you're done.

Go ride.

Default My idea

Jason do you still have the old hose? If so here's what I would do. Take the hose with to someplace that will have a male threaded plug. Like for an engine block, Napa probably has something the right dia., we don't care about anything other than it's outer dia. and that it is a 1/2" or so in length. Cut the hose a couple inches long insert plug clamp in place with hose clamp if it's long enough for double clamping that would be a bonus. slid over the thermo housing pipe and clamp that end. I think the airbox will need to come out but that isn't a big deal or maybe you can get a 1/4" rachet and socket in there.

This idea was a winner.

I didnt have the old hose so i got some from napa. bought a 1/2 bolt and 4 hose clamps from ace. hacked the bolt, clamped it 2X to the hose, then put the hose on the thermostat and clamped 2X.

Ugly but TOTALLY solid. AND i didnt have to remove the abox! Thank god
See yall at 9:00 am
