Default So I got hit today.

quick history. have had the 03 RC for about a year and a half. about a year ago I low-sided at about 5mph (trying to avoid sand). So after months of buying parts and replacing them (a couple grand) the bike was finally looking like new, because well it essentially was with all new parts.

so today was my day off and I wanted to go look at an mitsu evo for sale (thinking of trading in my current car) on the way there I got hit. I was sitting at a red light behind a big flat bed tow truck. about 10 feet back. all the sudden I see his reverse lights go on. first thought is oh shit, I dont even remember my bike ever has a horn so i go to grab the gas to blip it and hopefully get noticed. before my hand even pulled back he had the gas down and slammed me. his truck nailed the left side of my bike and through me off and the bike went down on the right side.

I am ok. but my bike is not so well. fixable. but needs a ton of new things that I havent even started making a list of. and I just replaced everything also..... grrr. I might have some "slightly rashed" fairings up for sale now.

damn car drivers in this state are so self centered and idiotic. he said he decided he wanted to turn and he was going to back up so he could get into the turn lane. about 50 feet up he could have made the same turn.

just wanted to let everyone know to be careful out there. this is why i always where my gear. not because I am scared of losing control of my bike, but I am scared of other people.

the dude was shady, didnt want me to call the cops or anyone because he didnt want to lose his job. I told him i dont care about your job really, he kept telling me about all his great shops that could fix the bike and get everything taken care of, but it sounded like a good way to get screwed over. anyway I got some of his info but not all of it (I wasnt thinking too clearly). the cop said he will try to get everything they need so his insurance can cover me. he said if the guy wont cooperate or wont give us info hell get him with a hit-and-run and whatever else he can also.
the bike is just money and I have realized that as much as i love it. i got thrown into the turning lane. glad nobody was coming because I would have gotten hit real quick.

be safe guys!

I went through a similar shady incident, only it was with my truck, not the bike. I learned that you can record all the info you want, but the most important info we should record first is the plate #'s. After that, a legit driver's license, and after that, insurance info if they have it. There are some really horribly shady people everywhere out there and they WILL resort to violence in a nanosecond to get out of the mess they just created. They will not want the cops called or anything run through insurance. When these red flags happen and a witness does not stop to help, always resort to getting a plate # and be happy the moron provides anything more than that.

yeah I was literally shaking and was not thinking too clearly.
I called 911 and hung up when I realized my bike getting smashed was not an emergency, lol. of course I forgot they promptly call back. if anything ever happens again I will definitely remember plate number and license number.

the bike goes to a local dealer tomorrow to get estimate. they said it could be a few days to a week which sucks because its finally beautiful here in CO. and not raining every day. oh well. the bike will come back agian. better, as usual. I think i might take this time to go 05 paint scheme. we shall see.

I'm glad you're alright dude! That could have been really bad. So did the cop come out and talk to both you and the driver of the truck? Or did you just talk to the cops after he left? It sounds like you're going to get stiffed if the cops didn't come before the other driver left. It happens like that WAAAAAAAY too much here as over 1/3 of the drivers in AZ are un-insured I truly hope that this guy doesn't screw you over though. Keep us all posted on what happens with this.

I don't care about your bike. As long as you're still here with us to post up about it, that's all that matters. Sounds like it could've been much worse so count your blessings and remember the bike is just metal and plastic and can be replaced.

so, estimate came back. suprised me. I was figuring 4-5kmaybe. total of damges for parts and labor= 8400. I dont know if that is a good thing or not. Thats a lot of money, and I know I can fix it for a lot less. I dont think they will want to give me a check for that without totalling the bike out. anyone have any experinces on what might happen? I have to send the estimate in tomorrow. we shall see what they say.

Damn!!! 8400!!! Good luck with that man. It is crazy...ever since I started riding, I have become a better "car" driver. Being aware of anything and everything around me. My wife is being more cautious as well. Just wish more people would be. Anyways, good luck with everything and be careful.

Who are you turning the estimate into? The driver or his company? Your insurance or his? If it's being done through an insurance company it will total for sure. If it's through your insurance, you'll most likely have the option to do a "buy back". Let's say they value your bike at $6500. You can usually buy the bike back for $2000 or less. So if you chose that option, and let's say they offered you the buy back at $1900, they'll usually just cut you a check for $4600 and let you keep the bike. They'll obviously subtract your deductible if it's through your insurance. I've been told that sometimes you aren't able to do a buy back if it's going through the other guy's insurance but I'm sure this varries from one insurance company to another. I did a buy back deal with my Gixxer and it made me about $5000 because I only had to buy a mirror for it and saved everything else. It's usually very beneficial to keep the bike if you can. If for nothing else than to make a good track bike out of it and use the remaining $$$ to get another street bike.

Send me a copy of the estamet and I can redo it for what I can get you the parts for so you can fix your bike and not have it total.

well, besides for their lack of communication and horrible wait things have gone decently.

They consider the bike totaled out. they value the bike at right around 8k (forget the numbers, 8 and some change) so they could cut me a check for that amount, but the bike isnt THAT bad and I have history with it so I would like to keep it. they tell me they are currently trying to get bids on it for salvage, and as soon as they have those I will get the offer of 8 minus price of salvage and I get to keep the bike (what I am hoping to do) or 8xxx and they get the bike. its been about a week though I dont understand what takes so long to get bids on.

scott, I will be calling you as soon as I figure it out. I need sprockets/chain/etc along with other things.

I am trying to figure out what I want do for fairing work. I am really thinking of getting it custom painted to set it off from other RC's. I dont understand why italian bikes look fantastic in monotone paint schemes but other bikes look boring. is it because most italian bikes usually have a very angular and defined shape? hmm since I suck at photochop might need to sketch something up for an idea.

'05 RC crashed @ the track by my friend, 8600 estimate, 2800 came back on the buy back.

Friend said he'll pay to get it fixed & I had it fixed for a total of 2500 & it's better than it was new & more importantly "NO SALVAGE TITLE", & is google eye'd @ whenever I'm @ the track.

Oh & I won a bike show with it !

Sorry to hear what happened.

It's just a good think he didn't have any real momentum built up when he hit you. I don't think anyone out there wants to look like I do..........at least on the inside they don't.
