Default The .40 cent mod

So I was fixing my exhaust pipe this weekend and since I had all kinds of stuff off already I got a couple .20 washers for the rear shock mount and installed them (3.5 to 4.5mm). Boy howdy does that change things. The rear shock action feels stiffer but smoother than at stock ride hieght and it feels like it bites harder under acceleration. It also feels piggier at the front at low speeds and has a little higher initial turn in effort than it was at high speed but it turns in quicker. Awhile back I raised the forks 1 line in the trees. Now I have to fiddle the settings again. Stock shock and forks. I weigh about 225 to 230 with gear and ride pretty aggressively. I'm broke for the next couple months so I gotta work with what I got for now. My plan at this point is to drop the forks back to where they were and soften the rear preload to the 3rd notch from the bottom( now at 5th) with compression and rebound settings at both ends at the stock settings and then fiddle. Any suggestions?

Do you have a tape measure and 2 friends? If so set your sag as close as you can and stop guessing (38F-25R). As for the forks set them 5mm under the cap.

"Softening" the rear preload, as you put it, is increasing rear sag. You need to set sag on the front and rear properly, and stop "guessing"

Front = 38mm

Rear = 20-25mm

There's a thread that was just started on this, that has links to 2 decent instructional articles on HOW-TO do it properly.

I can help ya with the sag setting, but you're on your own with the 2 friends.......

I set the sag when I first got the bike with one friend and my wife. Didn't guess a bit. It's at an 1 1/2" rear and 1" front. Front compression is 4 clicks harder than the manual recommends, rebound is stock, the rear compression is 2 click stiffer than factory and rebound is 1 turn from full stiff.
I changed the ride height which has changed the way the bike responds to input. I altered the front fork position in the triple trees to sharpen turn in because I like to get the bike leaned in quickly, I don't like that that has changed. I have raced cars for years and done a couple trackdays on my old bike and know what I'm looking for as far as tire feedback and now I've lost some of that.

one friendly suggestion... get a damper... with more aggressive geometry comes more aggressive headshake... for the 300 bucks it's gonna cost you to get one it's WELL worth it... better htan hucking the bike down the road because you got a good slap
