Default Track day

Well to make a long story short I have decided to leave the canyons and start doing track days. I will have been riding for a year this coming August . The RC is a great but I don't think I have even been close to what it can do just by riding on the street. What I would like to get is feed back on what I should look for while on the track and just some tips from you guys who have been out there so I don't look like a total ass. Thanks for reading

Go get a Twist of the Wrist, both volumes by Keith Code. Don't worry almost everyone looks like a dweeb at their first track day or race. Other dweebs will be there too You don't get trophys for winning Track day or practice. Listen to the instructors and let faster guys get around you. You'll make good friends doing that.

You can read everything out there but the first time you go out it will all go out the window! There's just too much going on to try to utilize the information. On the way home a lot will start to make sense...

If you can hook up with a "veteran" in the pits they can help you a lot with the morning logistics and between session preps...

A basic course is a huge plus your first day and if offered take advantage of it. You'll be snailing around intitially but the pace will increase exponentially as the day progresses and you won't be overwhelmed by the pace around you. That's a recipe for a disastrous day...

Accept the fact that your not a MotoGP superstar and pace yourself..

Takes time to go fast so, take your time

+1 What he said! Just don't let yourself get in over your head! If your not comfortable on the track in a session, come in and figure out why your not. If the pace or the number of bikes has you worried, there's no shame in accepting your limits and living to ride another day.... There is alot going on at one time on the track. You only have a limited amount of attention to spend while your out there. When your spending 75% of your alotted attention on just learning the track, it doesn't leave much for all the other factors involved. As you gain more experiance, both the amount and the focus of your attention will get better. Just don't try to do it all the first day....

Listen to these guys on this forum, because what they are talking about I just began to experience.. Ive done 3 trackdays so far and Im still learning so much.

There is alot to learn about yourself on the track. heres my few tips.

1.Leave the ego at home..ride your own style/pace doesnt matter if some one passed you or you just passed some one.. just concentrate on hitting good lines, finding your braking points and having a good time..if you feel like every thing is flying and you have no control then your going too fast.. if everything is feeling methodical and smooth then your probobly in the right pace. Trust me speed comes with time.. ( Im still slow as snails piss )

2. Ask questions.. just like your doing here..all this information will play a part later on while your riding. study the track, maybe look at pictures on line or watch videos.. just see how guys react to certain apex's. Well this is what i do.. Take this for what ever is worth. But this works for me.

3. Learn from your mistakes.. if you get called upon by a coach cuz you F-uped some where learn from it dont take it personal. Strive to correct them and get better at it.

4. Last for now but not least.. the best advice I got was know when your tired.. Riding the Rc on the track is like riding with a 100lb midget on your rear seat. inline 600's are alot lighter then the RC and technical tracks will wear you out.. once you notice that your making silly mistakes that you didnt do mid way thru the day.. have the balls to say " Im done for the day" even if others are still out there...

thats all i have for now.. i can go on for more.. but the best way to learn is to go out there and do it.

Feel free to hook up with my friends and I for a track day. Im doing Pocono Fusa sept 13th if God permits

any questions feel free to ask.

+1 to what everyone else and:
Keep your eyes up, way up and looking where you want the bike to go. I used to race cars and that was the the number one thing that I had to learn. It helps slow things down for your brain. Be consistent and stay on the line you committed to it makes it easier for the fast guys to get around you safely, the really fast people wil be by almost before you realize they are there. Be patient with yourself and like others have said leave your ego at home. Have fun.

Nice, saved me from a bunch of typing

Try to get an instructor in front of you,do not look at him/her but past them.

Ride without using your arms;sounds funny but honda R&D is your gaurdian angel
