I'm working on (beer) the RC51 today, and in removing the (beer) damper to add new clip-ons, I drop a (beer) set screw for the GPR damper..............
I hear, "Tink......tink..................tink............. ...............(open another beer, ya toolbag...) " and nothing falls out.
Now.....like a moron, i have to (beer) tuck-tail and send an Email to GPR and get another (beer) set (beer) screw.
Fack (beer) me.....................
Wanna guess (beer) who has a day off?
And ask anyone who's bike I've worked on: I don't touch beer, until my work on their bike is finished.
But yet today...........I change the rules..................
I've already used up my 2 spare screws swapping my Scotts between bikes
The little SOB screws cling to the allen wrench just long enough to clear the damper and then dive headfirst off the steering head into oblivion for all eternity
Well there was this one time I was out riding with some buddies and one guy filled up his bike with Diesel at the end of the day prior to the ride home.
So here we are taking this guys bike apart to get the tank up to drain it and one of those mounting screws from the Scotts damper falls in the engine somewhere. We look around forever and cant find it for nothing.
Anyway, a year or so goes by and this guy starts racing and riding track only. In the course of this he highsides once and loses the front going off track twice. At the end of last season he chops up his RC and sells it off to the highest bidder. Parts going all over the country and out to some others.
Funny thing is when it came time to yank the motor out of the frame, what does he find laying there on the engine? That goddamn screw he lost from his Scotts two years prior. Just baffling how resilient those little bastards are to take that kind of abuse and not fall off.
That's why I just leave them in the hole after they are unscrewed all the way and then I lift the damper trapping the screws in the holes; you can also get your Allen wrenches magnetized.

I would have left it in the hole........but the beer said, "Screw it out a little farther.....a little more..........just a little more...........just a tad.......easy....little more.............."

Or you can put a dab of grease on the end so it sticks.

Or grab the allen wrench with the handle to a stick welder, then touch the screw. It will attach itself to the screw........never to be dropped again

Dave... theres a little trick we use on stuff like that on aircraft. We take a small sharp punch and make a little dent in the part right next to the hole so it kinda of pinches the hole. It's called "staking" the bearing/pin/setscrew... etc. Works to keep the little buggers in the hole! Hope that helps... but if not... have another beer and think about it!

Information that would have helped.......................right before I heard the Tink....tink..........tink..........
I'll get a new one and like everything else...........safety wire it!!!
