So, I was driving along downtown, Just kind of put-putting along in moderate traffic, and this car in front of me slowed down at an intersection and moved over to the left side of the lane as if he was ready to take a left. After slowing down behind him ( he had no directional on), I decided all indications were he was taking a left. Shit, he was even looking to the left. So obviously since I was accelerating by him on the right side ( which I NEVER do), he decided to take a sharp right...
I suprised myself with using front and rear brakes well, and managed to slow up enough so when I hit the car ( on the right side near the gas cap at about 20 mph or so) I managed to: 1. Stay on the bike, and 2. I didn't fall over !
So I got out, and I was still in Uniform ( USAF), and these three baked-out-of-their-gord sixteen year olds hop out and freaked. They were all nervous that my bike was racked, and I scratched their K-car all the way down the side. I hadn't inspected my bike, and I didn't have my registration or license on me... I am a complete idiot, I left it in my backpack... I figured because I ran into them I would be at fault anyways, so I told them that no directional was a big no-no, and they all nodded in awe, and I think they were waiting for me to break their little necks one by one. I would have gladly.
Thinking I would be at fault, I told them they were lucky, they nodded again, and we shook. Then they got in the car and drove off.
So, Bike has the fairing scratched up under the left headlight, and I swear the bars; or at least left clip-on are not lined up when I am going straight. Is there any way to check their alignment exactly? The ignition area, when i am going straight seems to be canted just a tick to the right .
Whew. Thanks.

it's entirely possible that when you smacked the front end you may have bent the fairing stay and it's just playing with your eyes...
Forks look straight, it almost looks as if the fairing took the brunt of the light impact. It doesn't look like anything hit but right under the headlight. Could I possibly have pushed the left clip-on forward at all?
The shittiest part is, I wash the bike after EVERY ride, honda polish and Q-tip it spotless, ect... I love it to pieces. It was virgin. Now it feels like I am riding a dirty wh*re... awww..
In order to check the front alignment, I would prop the front end up so there was no downward pressure on the front tire and then loosen the tripple clamp/fork bolts, and the front axle pinch bolts (just a little). This should put everything back straight unless you bent something. The front axle will make the forks straight automaticly. They can't be crooked or the axle would not fit....unless it's bent.

I have tweaked the front end before like you indicate. There is a way to loosen and realign everything but it requires a front stand that lifts from the lower triple tree. I loosen the pinch bolts and the the steering stem. Once they are all loose you should be able to wiggle the bars back and forth till they are straight again, like a mountain bike. If it seems to favor a side then that is a sign that a fork is slightly bent.

Bring it to Peter at GMD Boston. He will measure and straighten it out. Not sure what he will charge you but he does great work. And he can redo your forks for ya while he has it.
