Default Radiator Cap Replacement

Anybody know if the RC's cap is interchangeable with some other Honda automobile cap? I called the dealership, and I refuse to pay $28 + tax for a radiator cap.

Radiator caps may look the same, but they're designed to release PSI at a certain preasure.

Use the wrong cap, (even though it may fit), and you can damage cooling system parts or overheat the engine.n At a minimum, your cooling system won't purge and restore correctly, leading to overheating.

If using the correct cap isn't worth $28 to you, then good luck.

And not using the factory oil filter will cause your mufflers to fall off! Flaming is futile.

I never said "factory cap", asshat, I said "correct cap"...............try to follow along.....

If he can find a matching sized plunger, with matching PSI release and it fits, then use it.

But just because a radiator cap "fits" doesn't make it the correct one......

I believe the factory cap is a 16psi cap. Pretty standard among automotive applications. I'm well aware of how the cooling system works.

I changed my response, as it sounded like I was being a wise ass, and that wasn't my intention. I've never heard of anyone here, having a cap go bad. That's probably the reason it's never come up before, and I searched it as well.

Like I said, I'm sure something there fits, and you *should* be able to match it up with something, on their shelf.

Be the guinea pig.................

NP, I'm no n00b to RC51.com... I know what kind of flameage can go on here, and trust me, that was nothing. My original profile got lost when the board moved, and I just haven't posted much since then.

I know something should fit. I replaced the cap and thermostat on my '87 CBR with Stant replacements and had 28,000 uneventful miles with them in place. I just need to take the cap down there I guess.

Its only 18.57 at servicehonda. $9 shipping though minimum. Maybe if there's someone near you who also needs parts who you can split shipping costs with?

The cost isn't the only thing that pisses me off. It's the fact that dealerships never have typical maintenance items like this in stock. Whether I have to order it online or at the dealership, I've still got a 5 business day lead time at the minimum. It's just plain silly.

Don't know that rad caps are "typical maintenance items" like say filters, plugs, valve cover gaskets, etc. which I'm sure we've all seen our dealers NOT have when we needed them.
