Default New rc 51 for me?

Well I sat on my first rc at the local dealership....new '06 with full scorpion exhaust..i currently ride an '03 636 not bad but what will be the difference in riding the 2? I will be trading in the 636 on the new rc...the want $12,600 but they'll work with the price. Is this a decent deal but I dont know why I've been want an rc for years....let me know the differences pro's con's...thanks!!!!

if you ask me man its never worth it to buy a new bike cause they depresiate <SP> so much so fast...if i were you i would get the 04 or something and with the extra cash get some ohlins and satos with a pciii

if your set on the 06 color just get the 05 cause the only diff is the honda logo on the tank...WOW

i mean dont get me wrong it would be nice to get a new bike if you have the cash but i would perfer a very nice used one with some great mods

ps. tell them to eat a d*ck that is way too much

I agree, buying new seems like a waste of money considering how much it will depreciate in value as soon as you walk out the door. If you absolutely must buy new, try and get an 05, it'll probably be cheaper.

As for switching from the 636 to the RC, they're completely different bikes. The RC makes torque almost instantly. If you're prepared for it, it's not a big deal. I myself just came off an F4i to the RC, and i loe it. The RC is exactly what i was looking for. I wanted something more sporty than the F4i, that made great torque all the time cause i was tired of wringing the F4i's neck to feel any pull from it.
The RC does weigh more than the 636 and probably won't feel as flickable in the twisties, but it's still a great handling bike.
I would also go used because there's a few mods that RCs almost NEED to have. A power commander, shorter gearing, and pipes. With those things on an RC it's a completely different bike.
RCs aren't for everyone. My friend got one last summer and hated it, sold it a couple weeks later. He was trying to convince me that i would hate it, but i had to try it for myself, and i love it!!! He now rides a Mille and loves that bike to death.

Cut and run. I just bought an '03 for $5100. That leaves a hell of alot of room for mods, plus mechanically a new fiddyone is exactly the same as my 2003.

Food for thought.

For the price they are asking, I say walk away as well. Though I have always bought used due to the budget, my 03 RC was a different story. I bought new only because I knew I was going to be keeping it for a long time and therefor it was a good value for me so far. I agree that looking for an 04 or 05 is your best bet.

Differences between your 636 and an RC are going to be everywhere. Where does one start. Well you won't be shifting as often, the power starts at idle, not 8 grand, and the RC makes a whole bunch of crazy sounds you have never heard before that make the whole experience interesting.

I'd say ride one before you drop 12 Grand on one! I too know people who LOVE em (I fall in love all over again with this damn thing every time I hit the starter and that friggin engine ROARS to life!) and people who think they are dogs and wouldn't ever own one. To each his own... try before you buy!

Buy an 05 or a used one... 12 is toooo high! I got mine "like new" for 8

I agree 200%... I picked up my 05 a couple months ago as a leftover (got it for 9k)... I didn't mind spending more cash on it since I new I would be keeping it for the long haul. With a new bike, you can break it in "right" (I certainly don't want to hjiack this thread and start people bickering about proper break-in)... but I think you get what I mean. Paying extra and buying new ensures that some meathead hasn't been beating on it for a while...

Just my ...

$12,600 is full sticker price, + $700 for the exhaust.

http://powersports.honda.com/motorcy...elId=RVT1000R6

NOBODY pays full sticker for a motor vehicle, if you have half a brain. You can do much better on a leftover.... NOt to mention, get the exhaust YOU want, not what some dealer bought for their price and then upped it to you, to make more money. I bought my Yoshimuras for $580 new.

I bought my 03 in 04 for $8600 with a 5 year warranty. Shop around.....

It's riding season. Dealers are out to retire this time of year, on unsuspecting people that want to ride.

I'm selling my 2003 Honda Rc51. It is in mint condition with about 4200 miles on it. I bought this bike brand new last July as a left over and it has been very well taken care of and has never been dropped. I have done 2 oil changes 1 at 500 miles and the other at the end of last year at 3000 miles. I put on a set of Jardine slip ons, Afam -1 front sprocket and Jim Ahlmans Speed Recal unit. Everything else is stock. I just put a new Bridgestone BT-20 rear tire about 500 miles ago. If anyone is intersted I'm asking $7000. I need to sell this bike asap to make room financially for the 05 636 I just bought. If you have any more questions feel free to pm me or send an email to baz_drum@hotmail.com

Jardines, 15 tooth front sprocket, Speedo-healer.......for 7K. Now there's a deal for ya Macz636........

5.5K less and if you've got a hot nut for the black RC, for another $1200, you have your black RC, and for about 4K less than expected.

Then, we can promptly spend your other 4k on forks and a rear shock....

You sure about that? I would bet hard $$$ that it's just slip-ons. If the sales guy is telling you it's a full system, he's probably lying to you...

Dave he could also sell the stock plastic and have the 05 -06 stuff for half the 1200.

Just a note I got mine for 8900 in 05. I now have nearly 6k in it and will add 2k wheels and a undertail plus hugger. So all in all I'll have as much in this thing as it cost me. maybe I shoulda got that ugly ass 999.
