So friday night I am heading down to cape cod and I am in the fast lane doing about 65 because of traffic in front of me, when out of the corner of my eye I see a blue volvo hood coming over into my lane, I realize that somehow she had not seen me and was switching lanes onto me. I give the bike some gas to get out of her way and I spooked her with the sound of the Moriwaki high mounts and she swerved out of my lane a little to fast, all I know is that when I looked in my rear view mirror the car was flipping over and over and cars were hitting it and it was hitting cars, this is all in my rear view mirror. I was going to stop and take a break after this happened but I pretty much thought that if I had stopped that I would probably not get back on it again. Sure as shit, when I got down to the cape I did not ride the bike once this whole weekend, weather was great, but to be honest, I am thinking about taking a break from riding for a while, the people in the city really do not know how to drive, and somewhere there is the driver of the volvo that completely almost killed me hating motorcycles because of what happened when it was completely their fault..... but would not make much of a difference whose fault it was if I was dead. Sorry to rant, but be CAREFUL out there, people really really do not watch what they are doing on the road!!!!
Thats total bullshit...now if you has SATOs on the bike i would believe you but moris...ppsh...
im totally joking man...i know i sounded like a dick but i had to bring some humor to a bad situation...on a serious note im glad that u are okay cause im still recovering from my accident and i know how much it sucks...i hope to GOD that the person in the Volvo made it out alive and well...
but you are right, there are people out there that just dont know how to drive cause they are either on the phone, eating, or putting on make-up (damn cake faces are the worst!!!)...
That volvo would not have heard me and I would have been pushed into the trees along route 93 south....and going 65, I am going to have to guess I probably would not make it. I kept thinking it was like a movie when everything is exploding behind and the one car squeeks through and lives just driving throught the chaos.

If you had been on an inline liter bike you would've been able to get ahead of her in 6th gear simply by twisting the throttle
Also +1 with, RVT4LIFE's statement, that people DON"T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE!!
But besides being too busy, doing CHIT, while driving!
The MAIN Problem is IMO, is, it is TOO Easy!....To Get Your Drivers License! Here In the good old USA!!
I mean Wholey Crap! You don't even have to speak english!!!
Well, I'd better stop, before I really get pissed!
Peace Jeff

funny that someone brought up a horn....if you get a chance, and you have moriwakis or probably satos also, on the highway doing 65....blow the horn and see if you can hear it!!! I was just looking at hella horns because they are supposed to be a lot louder I just have to figure out which one to buy!
I would call the local police station, and see if the accident was a non fatal 1 . i would have that in the back of my head for a awhile. Plus your iinfo, might savve somebody from losing the insurance claim..
I thought about it and called the state police, there was an accident involving 2-4 cars. One injury, and everyone is going to be fine. They did not even want me to give them a report, kinda weird. But Thats all they told me, I even asked if I needed to fill out any reports and he siad no. Feeling much better about things, still kinda irked about my bike.

Good Man!
That is surprising though, like you said, they didn't want any info.!??
If you think about the danger...what really could happen if another driver makes an error of judgment, you think twice about riding. As I have gotten older, I find the little voice in my head telling me not to ride anymore getting louder and louder. That two acquaintences have been seriously injured in the last month hasn't helped either.
I have loved motorcycles as much as anyone for twenty years, but I am strongly considering giving it up. Having a newly-adopted baby daughter probably is what has pushed me over the edge. It is not my own error that worries me, I ride within my limited capabilities and enjoy myself, and make sure my machine is in good working order.
It is the things you cannot control that scare me the most: brain-dead car drivers, teenager girls rear-ending me, a deer jumping out in front of me, a blowout from a tractor-trailer with nowhere to go...there are so many scenarios and in each one the motorcyclist loses big. We can complain about the skill of car drivers, but nothing will change, they outnumber us 100:1. That it wasn't your fault is little solace to your family when you are in ICU or the funeral home.
The weather has been perfect for three weeks...I've ridden one time and felt like I was in danger the whole time. Anyone want to buy a 999 in showroom condition?

All those things can happen in a car too. And the thought of being trapped in a crushed car scares me worse than when I am on the bike. At least the bike is alot smaller, quicker accelerating and braking, manuevarable(sp?), which will give you alot more escape routes if things go bad. I have well over 100k miles commuting in Orlando and D.C. and I have gotten real bad situitions before but managed to avoid desaster or minimize it because of these extra escape routes not available to you in a car.

Some accidents are unaviodable. Where do you go when you are sitting in traffic and the car behind you doesn't stop? Bikes cannot stop nor turn as quickly as a car especially in the wet, these are incontrovertible facts. The only thing you have is acceleration, the narrowness of the bike, and clear forward vision.
One time I was stuck at a complete stop on a main highway that normally was 60-70 mph. Traffic was backed up for several hundred yards, I happened to be near the bottom of a slight downhill section. I was sitting there at the end of the stoppage in the fast lane immediately behind the car in front of me. I hear screeching tires in time to see a red Jeep Liberty lock up his tires from full speed and literally go sliding past my left ear, half on the left shoulder and half in the ditch. He stopped in the ditch, equal to the car about three spots in front of me. This is an extreme, but not uncommon, example.
A minor fender bender in a car can mean months in rehab on a bike.
100% Safe?....................Or........What I Love Doing!
Hey sburns2421!
You are right about everything you just said! Infact, it just made my stomach feel like, well, you know!
I just can't image giving this up! I'm happliy married, but as of now, we have no children, and no plans for any in the furture, which I guess, makes all the differance in the world!
But at the sametime, even if I did, I really don't know if it would matter so much that I would give this up!? What kind of world would it be, if everything was 100% safe!??
I myself, was hit by a drunk driver afew years back, I woke up in the hosiptal and thought, what the HELL...happened?
I don't rememeber the accident to this day! I guess, since I don't remember what happened, it makes it easier for me to say, hey where's my bike, I want to ride!!
My brother rides and he has kids, although they are grown and well, you know, their living their lives! But now, this in turn has made my brother a grampa!................Dudes,.............. it still feels/sounds funny saying to my brother, hey grampa! Haaahaaha!
I have a good friend! That was just Friggin' run into at 9:00pm at night!
A week ago, this pass Sunday!
He was stopped, waiting to make a left turn, when some friggin' women, plowes! Into the back of him, while he waiting to make the turn!!
Well,.........Thanks You Jesus!...............My friend,..............while flying through the air and slammin' on to the ground!.....Was not killed or seriously injuryed, or worse!!................Totally awesome,..............how in this accident, where it could have been so much worse, he is OK, for the most part................Ofcourse he's sore, and he's got a brokin wrist.......
But we all know, how it could have turned out!......Plus, he's married with 2 great boys!! Great family! Truely Blessed!
Well, he kinda blew me away,.........because I said, so hows your wife takin' it?........He's like well, she's not to happy about it, but thanks God he's still alive!!
Now, to the part that blows me away, he's chaoppin' at the bit, to get on his or anew (it will be new) MC!! ........Now I give him all credit due, because his heart, body and soul are into riding!! STILL!! You know the saying, it's in the blood?........................Well, it's in our blood!!
Hey G! Get well, fast and strong! Brother, we've got some riding to do!
Personally,..........when I go,....I want it to be,...................doing something that I Love!....Be Happy for me, in knowing that's what and where I wanted to be! Thank you Jesus!
Peace Jeff

Ride safe.
I have been in that situation more than once. When I am sitting at a light or stopped on the highway I try not to be the last one in line. If that is not possible a stay to the edge of my lane eithier side and I don't go more than 1 or 2 seconds without looking in my mirrors. If I see someone approaching too fast I split the lane and get out of there. I will take a ticket for lane splitting all day long instead of getting run over. Nothing is 100% safe you just have to ride as smart as you can and you will have a good chance of not dieing out there. Thanks for the input I still think CARS SUCK.
P.S. I have a new daughter as well and after she was born those weekend hard rides pretty much stopped all together. Now I save it for the track.
