I own a few bikes including 2 04 GSXRs, 10 in all now after buying the RC last weekend. I just got insurance for my RC and it was 698 a year with SF. MY GSXR 1000's are only 520 a year each....How come the RC is more? Its not as much bike as the GSXRS...Heck my 01 750 is more bike and I only pay 460 for that. I'm 25 with a not perfect driving record but not horrible...Any ideas?
its all about the cc's and msrp new price with my insurance. at least thats what my agent told me. dont feel bad mines $2290 a year and i have 0 accidents 0 tickets. but im 23.
I pay $380 a year for full coverage on my 03 RC, but I have kinda been thinking of adding an 06 GSXR 750. I called about insurance for it and was quoted something like $375 a year. Seemed strange to me too.
I pay 704 a year ,full coverage, in baltimore area. Still seems a little high to me, but im also 34. No points, tickets, but 1 accident on ex's cbr 2yrs ago. But dont think it was noticed for premium. I am also using SF.
I pay $244 a year full coverage on a 2000 RC51 and $290 a year full coverage on a 2006 CBR 1000RR . They are both with state Farm. Im 37 and have my house and my 2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL with State Farm as well.
Getting raped for insurance aside, it often has to do with replacement costs. As in what value a totaled RC commands (higher than a GSXR for sure) and what damaged parts cost to replace. I know GSXR plastics can be outrageous but the RC as a whole is more expensive to replace damaged parts. That helps bring the insurance costs up a bit. Hope this logic helps some, but it won't make it easier on the wallet

Yeah that makes since. Plus the RC is the little extra...I just figured with my house, trucks and business insurance it would be a little cheaper. Progressive wanted like 900/year...
It was cheaper for me to get a RC51 than a gsxr1000, not that I wanted one . My agent called it a everybody in the world bike, and thats why it was higher to insure, you no, more bikes, so more thefts, more wrecks.

Mostly a true statement. However, if all those variables of numbers on the road, amount of them stolen, and wrecked were consistent with the number of GSXR1000's sold, then normally that bike would command a similar rate. But truth to that agents logic and the point he made (a good one too) is that GSXR1000 owners are more likely to wreck or have their bike stolen versus an RC51. It seems like a shot against Gixxer 1k owners but it shouldn't be. It's just the actuarial sciences behind it all. There are people who pay a lot of money to earn college degrees that make them pros at calculating the reasons why a GSXR1000 owner should pay more than an RC51 owner. They are just doing their job and so are all the riders of those bikes that wreck, apparently at a higher average than other makes and models.
Wouldn't have anything to do with the overdose of power that bike makes no would it?

My State farm agent told me it depends on where you live (ratio of claims paid out) and the CC of the bike. Did you tell them 1000 cc's or 999? I said 999 and I am paying 420 a year for it.
