I have been from dealer to dealer around the Chicago burbs and I cant budge anyone much on pricing. I’m not some young guy either. At 41 I’ve “wheeled and dealed” a few sales in my years too.
I have offered $10,200OTD cash (that number comes from convos here) for a ’06 and nothing. I cant even find a bike on the floor to look at. Bottom line, I just don't want to be shafted. I understand dealers need to eat too but I'd like to see a "fair" deal come my way.
Deals on the table:
’06 $11,684 OTD
’06 $13,000 OTD
’05 $11,500 OTD
I understand why you may want a new bike; hell I've bought a couple of new bikes over the last 10 years, but I won't do it again. My suggestion is to look for a really well maintained 'pre-owned' RC-51.
I have a 2002 model. I bought it last August from a somewhat local seller (same state). It was clean and had a list of nice goodies that went with it like: Sato Banzia exhaust, PCIIIusb, undertail, braided lines, and flushmount front signals. I paid $6400 for it. Since then I have added powdercoated wheels, D-bubble 'screen, VFR shifter, HRC res. lines, Penske rear shock, had the forks re-worked, and installed 2004 swingarm (just for looks), and I'm still thousands below what a new bike would have cost me.
I have to admit that I really, really like the 2005/2006 color scheme, and I can't blame you for wanting to buy on that point alone, but save yourself some dough, buy a slightly older model and add the newer bodywork, cause at the end of the day, mechanically you'll have that same bike as my 2002. From a factory stock standpoint that is.
Just my . Good luck with your search.

Why is that, it is very dicouraging that you cannot get a bike for what YOU want to pay??
If the dealer is offering an 06' for $184 more that another dealer is for an 05' what is you beef?
Is it out of your price range.
As long as you have received excellent customer service and will build a relationship with a particular dealer, that is the most important thing.
Remeber the sweetness of low price, Is forgotten long before the bitterness of poor service.
And if you have some one who says they bought one for $500 cheaper.
What is benefit of that that when your gonna keep your ride for several years.
If your looking to get rid of it in 12 months or so. Then go for a USED one.
Otherwise:
GET ON, SIT DOWN, SHUT UP, AND HANG ON!!

The only thing really wrong with your reasoning is you're trying to wheel and deal a bargain price before the start of the season.
Wait till the end of 06, there's guaranteed to be 51's lying around somewhere. Than talk with your lowball offers.

A dealer by me still has a leftover '05 which they want $10,200 OTD for. I passed it over for a used 2000 with all the goodies for $6400. I'm happy with my decision.
It may be a hike for you but Southern Honda (Tennessee) has some RC's you may be interested. (www.southernhonda.com) I just put a down payment on a brand new 05 with and OTD of $9500. They had 06's for $9998.00. I too had the same challenge in locating one in Virginia for a decent deal. There were only 3 06's in VA dealership and no one would go under $11000. I don't know if its worth the travel, but hope that helps-
They are a little closer to you, and will give you their bottom line price up front, no need to haggle. While not as cheap as southern honda, they are still reasonable and have great customer service. They are typically much lower than most dealers around here with regards to pricing.
I have purchased 2 bikes from them, and have referred a couple other people their way.
Give Jeff Eckmann a call at extension 22 (419-891-1230)
Tell him Phil from Cincinnati referred you.

Have you tried Chicago Cycle Center. They usually have smoking deals, but don't show them on their website. Pick up a cycle trader magazine and you'll see the deals in there.

I thought there were left over crated '03, '04 and '05's available. You are setting yourself up for a huge depreciation loss if you buy an '06 at anywhere near MSRP

My bike was a left over bought a little over a year ago.
Yeah, I knew I got srewed by the dealer. I mean, they tied me up and MADE me buy that thing. My buddy back east was saying how he found one at Nofukinway Motorsports for $2140 otd. I have a nother friend that waited until the '86s came out and got his '85 for $1682 otd still in the crate. Fcuking dealers - they MADE me buy it. It wasn't like I had a choice or anything.....
And furthermore, I absolutely HATE it when a business tries to make money in a transaction. HATE IT! This free-market capitalistic shite's gotta end!!!!!!!! END, I TELL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is what I did,, got a 2002 in GREAT shape and all the performance goodies. I sold the tank / plastics and got 2005 OEMs... I'll post more pics once I get the undertail situated...

I would expect a statement like this from a motorcycle salesman. Even below MSRP dealers make money. I worked for a dealer as a salesman for a short time before moving to the finance office. You and I both know that the dealer makes it's money on the financing.
