Default I got one!!!!!!

Hello gents, after a couple of years of waiting I got my RC51 yesterday.Just wanted to say whats up.My bike has many mods and I was hoping to get some pros and cons from you guys. Full titanium Akrapovic exh,PC,BMC air filter,Scotts steering dampner, front forks were sent to Traxxion Dynamics, and it has a Penske remote res. adj. rear shock.I believe the gearing is the stock 40 tooth. It also came with a set of Michelin Pilot Race HP2's on it.This bike is a 2000 with only 10715 miles on it.Are there any major things/problems I need to be aware of on this machine? thanks fellows.

Great Machine! Now post pics.

I've had mine a couple months now, and I can without a doubt say the the biggest flaw is the stock gearing. It is horrid. In 6th gear, cruising at 65mph it will bog down when you apply throttle. Leaving from a stop is tricky too, as I've stalled it once or twice by accident. During spirited riding you get the feeling that 3rd gear is too tall, but 2nd gear is too short etc. Never fear, I have a 520 with a -1/+3 combo on the way! I suggest you do the same

Ignore Sportbiker, we (the vast majority) don't give a crap about wheelies around here.

40 tooth is fine in the rear, but you will like it better with a 15T front sprocket. 16/40 is the stock gearing and it is too tall.
Enjoy the new ride, Hoov.

I have a very similar RC and am also in NC... what a coincidence

I also have to say my next mod is gonna be a 15tooth on front. Gearing is WAY too high.

I'm sure those that have been on the highway have....

Unfortunately I have to take the highway to get to the good stuff. With the stock gearing I usually leave it in 4th or so at 65...as (like I said before) 6th gear is terrible

Hey,Hoover The 15 T front will set you back 20 bucks or so. And there is no bigger bang for the buck PERIOD

Wow guys, I didn't expect so many responses so fast. I posted this morning went on a 180 mile ride and came home to a thread full.cool!!! I can officially say that i love my new RC. Man you cats are spot on on the gearing. I live 10 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway so I just learned alot about the bike. I'll be getting that 15 tooth front this week. For you local guys or anyone with a NC map. My first ride on my RC51 and my first sportbike ride in three years was from Hendersonville NC to Brevard. Then climbed 3000 feet to the parkway. North on the parkway to Mt.Mitchell and back!!!! I look forward to being a part of such a responsive forum......happy motoring. BM

The only known problem with the '00 bike is the leaky gas tank. If your bike doesn't have tha problem, then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Be careful riding with Race comp tires on the street. Race comp tires take an extremely long time to heat up and can be quite slippery when cold. I would recommend going to a street compound as soon as you wear out the michelins. When going out on rides take it easy for about 5 miles before turning up the pace on race comps.

Thx for the advice on the Michelins....I sort of figured that one out today after a gas stop. Thx for verifying what I thought was happening....no experience on race compounds at all. Thats the precise reason I joined here.

Leaky gas tank!!! I just changed the rear plug and smelled gas the whole time (I did eat Taco Bell for dinner, but I don't think that was it).

Give us more details please!
