Default Which Track leathers?

OK Guys,
I'm looking to tap into this list's considerable bank of knowledge regarding various brands of reasonably price one piece track leathers.

I've tried on Alpinestars TZ-1's but they don't really fit me that well (too small in the shoulders, even in the riding positioin). I'm leaning toward Joe Rocket as they seem well constructed with heavy leather, and good perforations/venting but I'm also considering the newer Frank Thomas' which would be about $100 less that JR (but not as heavy) as they both fit me well. No place here in San Antonio carries Tecknic that I could try on, but I think they have a comparably priced suit to the Joe Rocket...

Gotta keep in mind that the budget is tight and I only do a few track days per year.

That said, can anyone tell me how each brand holds up in a get off? Also, who has the best prices out there on leathers?
Thanks

Default AGV Sport

I got a good deal on my AGVSport leathers, for under $500 I am satisfied.

I am kind of thick through the chest and shoulders and I find the Teknic stuff is kind of narrow up there, as are most of the European suits. AGV or Joe Rocket are probably your best bet for something "off the rack," if you are broad shouldered/big chest-ed.

Due to having a tough time getting anything to fit, I just ordered a custom suit from Syed Leather (www.syedleathers.com) and the fit is awesome (quality and protection seems quite good too). The price isn't too bad either; about the same price as a mid-high priced off the rack suit. I will never get anything off the rack again.

I might be able to help you with suit fitment and fair pricing. Feel free to PM - indicate what kind of budget you are looking for and the features you would like in a suit.

For track duties, you are of course better off with a 1-piece. Do you want the Hump on the back? Perforated? Does color matter? That kind of stuff.

I just picked up a set of Fieldsheer Revo's from Kneedraggers; seems decent quality, double/triple stitching throughout, good CE armour, and easy enough to move around in. I bought a 52 US because I also have a problem with chest fitting, and this suit fits me well (54" chest). For under $500, no too bad a deal, either.

Buying leathers is kind of like buying exhausts. Sometimes you do get what you pay for, but there is also a sucker born every minute...

We have a Gericke Cletic 1 Piece on sale. Very well made, we have sold and delivered 10 since January with excellent feedback. We were at Putnam Park last weekend and one of our customers who had purchased our Complete Gear Package deal was there riding in all of the gear. I asked for his review and he loved all of it. The Gericke Celtic has a more American cut than say a Alpinestar, RS-TAICHI etc... We offer the Celtic for $719.95 shipped and include a free pair of Gericke Racing Gloves or for the Speedzilla folks I will substitute a Psycleskin undersuit for the gloves. Both are a $90 value.

RS-TAICHI makes what I feel are the best suits on the market. We have multiple staffers wear the TAICHI. Myself and one other have crashed the heck out of our TAICHI EVO suits with excellent results, he and I both have 2 TAICHI suits. We ride on the track every bit of 30 weekends per season so our gear is really put through the test. (sometimes more than we would like ) The TAICHI suits range from $1735.95 - $899.95 for the 1 piece.

When you deal with us I personally handle all of the sales. My experience with gear and parts is pretty extensive. My advise is based on personal experience or our staffers personal experience, not what our distributor tells us.
anyone interested can call 586-484-1188

I've been thinking about adding that kind of information to my websites. I've been reviewing bike parts for years, but rarely discuss gear even though I have lots of crash testing experience

Good point, I've been doing a little research on gear and don't seem to find as much info as I would like. Not to mention I'd rather you do the crash testing
