Latest Superbike title is in development for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP and PC.
Black Bean Games has announced that the latest instalment in the official video game series of the World Superbike Championship, SBK 09 Superbike World Championship is currently in development at acclaimed racing developer Milestone.
SBK 09 is promising the ultimate experience of the championship, featuring the license for all tracks, teams and riders from the World Superbike Championship.
Improvements over the previous instalment are said to be plenty and include new 3D environments, new teams, complete track overhaul, new gameplay structure, new game modes and a revamped user interface. The pits have been redesigned to be as close to reality as possible and the performance of the motorbikes is based on exact data from their real counterparts, with the player able to fine-tune every single setting a real race engineer has access to.
SBK 09 will offer five single-player gameplay modes (Quick race, Training, Race Weekend, Championship and Challenges) and three online multiplayer (Quick Race, Championship and Team Championship). The game will also feature a downloadable Online Time Attack mode.
For the first time in a motorbike racing game, SBK 09 will also feature visible damage on fairings and rider leathers.
SBK 09: Superbike World Championship is scheduled for release in May for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP and PC.
What would be the best controller for a PC with this game?
If you use chase view(behind bike up in the air aka - arcade) and auto rider movement, you need only a playstation controller. If you want to ride on the bike(- cockpit) with manual rider movement, get ye a good joystick with a throttle axis for your rider's lean.
Hey SB,
I downloaded the "full demo" from P-Bay.
I'll tell ya, the menus will drive you crazy. Ultra stoopid design and execution. Redundant, repetitive, counter intuitive, wrong and serious time wasters. However, once you get used to or get by these horrid menus, you get some brilliance in the handling and visuals. The bloody menus make a big, stupid noise for everything except when someone joins your room.. lol you have to stare at the screen and wait.
The multiplayer is shite(75% of the time). If many peeps are in the lobby, it is laggy. Not like MGP 07... eight racers with silky smoothness. You cant practice racing and have a join in progress and, if everyone leaves, the game ends... nuts.
There is no chat!! Unbelievable. No way to say hi, bye or whatever. I cant even fathom the reasoning or lack of reason for have zero means of communication.
The pysics are fabulous. Sliding, skipping, power slides, drifts, endos, wheelies and just about everything but highsides. Really great. It's easier to follow close!
It's really hard to find grip and drive! My joystick works flawlessly, the rider lean is silky smooth.
It has... get this!... force cockpit!!! So now there are a group of us forming who race this and it is as realistic a sim as I've ever seen. It's gonna take you a coupla months to get good at this. I race the Italians on Cockpit1 on the weekends, extreme settings. It's ultra tuff but after a hundred laps I was getting better. Even won a couple. The graphics of the tracks are near photo real.
Maybe the thing would run smoother with people from the same area racing together. The way iRacing does it. Average ping in iRacing=26ms. Average ping in Sbk09=500ms.
OK, i finally got a coupla hours(5!) more on this fantastic sim... Wow!
I dont know if anyone from Zilla is on?
We should be racing each other for beer bucks and motorcycle T-Shirts. This is a sim of what we love!
So c'mon lappers, get a top quality controller, (Ps2/xbox controller = garbage! get a real stick and SBK09 and let's see who is fastest in
extreme cockpit1 ... You're gonna love the physics, I guarantee it!
I had to change my multiplayer tag to "cockpit1=extreme" People were joining thinking they could have chase view.. many quick exits. Really, if you're good at riding a real bike, you'll be good at extreme cockpit. You get faster faster if you lap with someone who waits for you and shows you the lines. This is the best thing we have to simulate our passion to race each other.
Team championship? maybe challenge another BB? The Italians! Ya, lets smoke the Italians!
If anyone wants to do some laps on TeamSpeak PM me. The game doesnt have a chat so... thats just beyond stupid. Cant even say/type a word in game. Third party, voip chat is the way to go.
If you need help with anything just ask.
My setup
Joystick: Precision Pro2 force(Microsoft)
Push for accelerate
Pull for front brake
Trigger = rear brake
Side to side = turning
Top JS buttons = shifting up/down
Joystick "lever" aka throttle = Rider lean
I think MotoGp and Sbk are made by the same crew.(?) There are just too many similarities. I guess that can be good, as long as they dont have a monopoly over the years and keep up the great work.
I loved MGP 08, especially the multi class.
Sounds like you have a wicked PC Dr. T! That will look some good I bet. I have a sweet monitor and it looks pretty good on this old hag system of mine.
Wednesday night is good for me and evenings of the weekend. I could change days I work if others only have a certain day/night to play.
Anyone else jumping in? I have a teamspeak racing room that works well. Just doin some laps is fine by me. woohoo

I havent heard of any serious Vista issues with TS but I have heard of Vista issues..hehe. If another chat/speak program works better, let us know. I am still in disbelief that SBK09 doesnt have ANY communication options except blinking a ready light from green to red vice versa. So Teamspeak, Ventrillo whatever, maybe, if enough people are interested... Let's seee who has the lap times.
What a session last night. I had to join a "simulation" server. I was the only one in cockpit yet again. Had to wait for the chase view wankers every fourth corner. They havent taken themselves seriously or realized the money that people will pay if you give them something totally pro. (Instead of downloading their work).
Iracing has 17000 paid members. ($160) a year!) You get 26 ping while playing, full stats, replays, appeals board, sporting code, organized series, forum, built in teamspeak, overlay chat, laser scanned tracks, prizes and constant development and improvement. Real riders are serious about their online performance, I am amazed. The "corkscrew" is the digital corkscrew, not an inteprtation based on photos, pictures or onboard laps. Laser = accurate. I joined for $25 for three months. Watching Dale Jr. live, full screen in a virtual cockpit, surrounded by 20 other mad dogs, running perfectly smooth. ...amazing. I am not a big Nascar fan but I was blown away by the spectacle... both real and simulated.
Quote:
Top qualifiers get bragging rights of course – right now, NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and virtual racing legend Greger Huttu lead the oval and road categories respectively – but the real action and interest will be further down the rankings as drivers tussle for the last few spots on the eligibility list. Bill Malicoat, Tyler Price, Wes Propst, Milos Miljkovic and Brett Stephens hold down the final five spots in the oval rankings.
SBK cant even come close to comparison except, it's a great simulation of riding a bike.(far from perfect). Driving sims enjoy the wheel and pedals, giving you a fairly good input that is close to the real thing. As we all know, the bike is a symphony of inputs that are impossible to "simulate" without the input from rider lean, tilt, crouch, crunch, hang, twist, pull and a thousand, other subtleties and relatively unoticed inputs along with steering and other mechanical inputs. We are, basically, left with the goofey, game pad or the joystick, both counter intuitive and about as far from realism as it gets.
I wrote to iRacing and asked them about motorcycles. They answered that they were soo busy with the flood of car lovers that Mcycles were on the back burner. The passion for the cycle sim race is so low, motorcyclists are virtually dispassionate and lazy.
Wany of the hard core racers at my place of employment are part of iRacing and say its fantastic. They have custom built chairs to simiulate cockpits and one dork has a motorcycle with simulated controls. They have told me every track down to every last bump is present and you can even race Dale Jr. who uses it to prep. I would do it but the wife would never agree.

iRacing is fantastic, it was on the local news up here in Nova Scotia Canada. Every millimeter of track is digitally logged.. yum. You have to guard you liscense and safety incidents rating. Moving so far from arcade.
I must be a dork wannabee cuz I'd love to have more control. Can you find out what he does for Mcycle controls? Here's a wii bit of a solution...lol
