Default Registering NJ motorcycle in California

Hi,

I'm wondering what would be required to register my vtr1000 which is currently titled in NJ?

I believe that it used to be a California machine several years ago and made it's way across the land. I'm pretty sure the emissions stuff (if it even existed back in 98') has been stripped. It also has a cat-less after market pipe.

Any ideas?

What is the price of motorcycle insurance in Ca? I wouldnt bother insuring the bike against theft/collision, just personal liability.

Shouldn't be too big of an issue. I think the bike has to have over 7500 miles to be eligible, other then that they don't do inspections here (yet). The pipe will only be an issue if you get pulled over and the LEO notices it. This is generally a fix it ticket ($25.) but the bigger problem will be finding a stock pipe to clear the ticket.

Insurance can be anywhere from $200 to $800(six month/yearly) depending on your driving record. For liability only (that's just a guess, you'll have to get your own quote.) Hope this helps and good luck.

Default insurance/registering

Cali is weird but what they want to see when they inspect the bike is that it has a CARB sticker. If it doesnt have this (california air resources board) sticker then it has to have 7500+ miles. I have never had them make an issue out of the exhaust but I guess it just depends on which DMV you go to. As far as insurance goes I pay 150 every 6 months for full coverage with a 250 deductible for my bike, but again thats based on me not so much the vehicle. I pay almost the exact same for each one of my bikes... 1997 1100XX, 1998 900RR, 2005 RC51, and 2009 1000RR.

Thanks guys, the mileage shouldn't be a problem... 59000 Where would I find the "carb" sticker, although I guess from the mileage it shouldn't be an issue. Appreciate the input.

Some bikes its on the air box, but on the RC51 I think its on the frame left side down by where the choke pull is.
