Default Cell Phone Died

Motorola Star Tac from the late 1990's. Been acting up for a few weeks and finally died today. Sometimes I can hear the call and sometimes it's as if I muted the earpiece. It turns on, turns off, dials fine, connects... but there must be a loose connection in the flip part, maybe near the hinge. What a shame. It's a great phone.

So the provider sold me a $50 Motorola V262. Anyone have one? They all seem so tiny and cheesy. They weigh about as much as a carbon fiber ant.

And of course the charger and case and other accessories don't work with the new phone.

All modern cell phones suck.

Get the cheapest, most basic phone you can find. That way, when it screws up - and it will screw up - you won't be so pissed off.

In fact, that theorem applies to just about any modern piece of electronic equipment. We are living in the Disposable Age, and there's nothing we can do about it.

Well the new cellular phone arrived this morning. Talk about tiny, this thing is almost half the size of a Star Tac. I use a cell phone about once a week so it's not all that important... but 8 years makes a difference in electronics, that's for sure.

One thing that's surprising is the internal speaker. It's got to be about 1/16" diameter but it sounds great. This little shit can play La Cucaracha like there's no tomorrow.

Why cant they just make cell phones that are actually just phones? No camera, video games, personal business assistant, calculator, stop watch, remote control, etc...

Not that you would really want it to....riiiight?

The new phones are pretty amazing stuff. The latest and greatest are only the latest and greatest for about 6 months though. I used to always have the newest phones when they came out because I use mine so much. But have learned to just get the second or third most latest, that way you save a grip of $$$. Now they have some great video phones out. This phone is REALLY nice that just came out http://onlinestore1.cingular.c...HONES All aluminum, very thin, photo, video, etc. But for $500, I will wait 6 months and get it for $100.

Your session has timed out but I'm guessing it's the Razor phone?

Here's somthing slick: Zinc-Air batteries. You keep them sealed in a foil pouch until you need the power. Upon opening the pouch, air acts as the electrolyte and power is produced. You can connect your phone to the power unit for a quick re-charge, or buy a couple of Zinc-Air batteries which snap right in when your main battery dies and you're nowhere near an outlet.

Probably would be good on a camping trip, but then are their cell towers in the woods?

That is a pretty slick gadget. But it seems that the batteries these days last forever on a charge. Mine will last like 5-7 days on standby. Great concept though.

I don't think there is anywhere here in Cali that DOESN'T have a cell tower.
