Thanx

it is a very old lawn jockey which i found and want to paint modern. The old lantern is shot and i got a new low-voltage copper one to go on there. My mother has some path lights i installed, and he would go great right at the edge of the path leading to the steps.

Best way to do cast iron is have it sand blasted (the place that you take it should know what the best way to blast it is).

Then use a good self etching primer and compatable paint on top of teh primer.

We used to strip the paint off valve covers with "Easy OFF" oven degreaser, or something like it. That with a little steel wool would take off even burnt on oil. Then we got a "dip tank" with industrial strength Chem dip. But if you left alluminum parts in overnight, they might not be there in the morning. very corrosive, also makes a very good weed killer. I think you can buy the chem dip in 5 gal cans at Home Depot, or maybe Checker. It may not be industrial strength but should do the trick for you.
