With your youngster you gotta think about saftey, the glock doesn't have one. I have a 5yr old and a 3 yearold. I don't carry a round chambered, but drill weekly drawing and chambering. The XD has 3 safteys. The thing that swings me to the glock is the total reliablity factor, my wifes G19 went through 3k+ rounds before being cleaned and never ever hic-uped. They have been tested to the extreme and come out fine. There's a lot of bs on the web about the glock kaboom, and its always with some ones sketchy reloads...if you shoot reloads, shoot your own. The glock, while it has improved doesn't totally support the case chambered and causes a slight buldge. I do reload several calibers, but will not reload for my glocks.
All that said, find one that fits your hand and is natural to shoot. I find that any thing I carry is some what of a trade of, size..comfort..caliber..etc. My 27 isn't the ideal weapon, but it fits well enough and I'm accurite enough with it to do the job.
Remeber you use your handgun to fight to your long gun.
Pm me if you have any specific questions, I'm no pro but I've weeded through some mistakes.

|
fair enough and thanks for the honest feedback Rob
i will not have to go far to shoot, my back door is 30 acres My ole' man has at least 100 weapons and i have been a hunter since i was 5 and was taught early on guns are tools nothing more. I have not shot many hanguns the last 15 years or so as jersey is not nicey nice on them so i only get machine gun and assault rifle time when i used to visit home or shot gun time hunting. My pops git some weatherby 50 cal rifle for elephants or something and a new HK with night scope so should be fun here the next few weeks when i get settled in.
I will have to see about finding a place that will let me shoot some of these for sure for comfort as this pistol will be for everyday carry so it has to fit me right.
Thanks again for the ideas and help

i would have shot that fukking crackhead stealing my bike in 2005 right in the head no questions asked, none!
be surprised how thieves seem to be leary around people who have guns for safety. some have families and want to ensure they are kept safe and sound not attacked by some $100 a day rockhead

Amen.
I'm in Ga now, not Sc...hence the name change on the other forums...Ga has a "castle doctrine", basicly you have no duty to retreat, be it in your home, car, work...and you don't have to equal the force, if some one breaks into your house, weapon or not your totally right to end them...gotta love the south!

You can build a good AR if you shop around.
I'm not sold on the direct impingment ( vs gas), I can see it in combat, but if you run it clean and alittle wet they work fine, but I'm not defending the home land.
Go check out ar15.com, and look at the EE(equipment exchange) you can find what you need to build.

In your garage is one thing depending on where you live, outside in the driveway or on the street is another. A guy here caught some crackhead breaking into his car on the street and shot him with a broadhead tipped arrow through the neck. Killed the bastard. He is serving out a 25 year sentence.

Just to throw something else into the mix. CZ.

CZ RAMI in .40 is one of my two most frequently carried. It is light, compact and fits my hand beautifully. Good sights, I carry a round chambered on the half cock notch (DA/SA) though it can be carried cocked and locked. Last night I was glad it was along, think i difused a robbery at the pizza joint . . . standing there waiting for my pizzas when a classic scenario started to unfold. I pulled my t-shirt up and tucked it behind the grip and mr. sketchy and his lookout took off without incident. No big thing, but glad I don't even run to the pizza joint and back without tucking the holster.
The P-06 and the PCR would also be great CZ's for you to consider MrGrn.
My other most carried:

.454

You have a 10,000 % higher chance of being killed by an illegal alien driving and un-insured pinto thru a red light. Guns don't kill people, well placed rounds do!

Almost nothing will stop them in their unquenchable quest for power and their agenda for increasing public dependence upon the state. They are Hell bent on removing free will, personal responsibility, and individual prosperity from the face of this nation.
The only thing standing between this current regime and the sanctity of our Constitution and our God granted freedoms are people who recognize how fragile our freedoms are, how easy they are to legislate away, and are willing to stand up and fight for those rights to preserve the rights to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness for my children's generation.
In other terms, Patriots. Citizens who refuse to bend to the will of a government determined to oppress them.
I find it very disheartening (but not surprising) that the greatest threats I may face in my life may be from domestic enemies who are sworn to serve this nation and uphold the Constitution, as opposed to the foreign ones I fought who couldn't give a damn about it.
I know it's easy for you to sit there and not even consider the sacrifices others have made so that you can relax in the comfort of your home with a warm bed and a roof over your head, with dependable sources of clean water, bathroom facilities, food and energy at your fingertips and vast amounts of technology and distractions for you to immerse yourself in; and never have to worry to much about it being taken from you because there are police out there trying to maintain law and order. You take for granted how easy it is to just hop in a car, on public transit or on your bike, and go wherever you please without having to explain to anyone the reason for your travels or where you are going. You even take as a given that the roads will be passable, in excellent condition in most cases, traffic controls will work properly, bridges will be in good repair, etc. In most cases, if you get hurt, you know there is a hospital within reasonable distance, and a reliable Emergency Medical Service to transport you. You can call the Fire Department when you have a fire; and 911 service for all of it? How convenient is that?
Did you ever stop for ONE MINUTE and think about WHY our country has so many conveniences? Or WHO gave years of thier life and in many cases, their very last breath to ensure you can sit there without concern for any of it, get high and take it for granted?
I didn't think so. And I don't hate you for it, I pity you.

Oh, I wish I could see your aggitated faces. This is one BIG button that is so easy to push. Remember, I don't oppose the right to carry. But I have no faith in the people who do. Many of them are one bad day away from tragedy. And it's abundantly clear that background checks are a sham. Who is legitimate and who is not? Each are suspect because of that.
Defender seems to have McVeighish issues.
P.S. God didn't grant shit. People earned what we have, period.

McVeigh was a coward and a murderer. I won't dignify that poor attempt at an insult with any more of a response than that.
I have to admit I am agitated. I'm upset that people like you have no idea what you have, or how close you are to losing it. You are a Godless misguided soul.
It's truly ironic that you expect the government to protect you from people with guns, yet you refuse to obey the laws passed by it. You're nothing more than hypocrite, and therefore your arguments and points lack any impact on intelligent people whatsoever. You have no credibility left.

What laws are you talking about?. You mean, like speeding? Never been arrested here. Never harmed a flea either. Killed lots of deer though. In season.

Reminds me of one of my artist wife's "friends" who HATES guns and ANYONE who would own one, yet he said in a conversation recently that if the shit really hit the fan, he would want to stay with us, because I would "protect" him. My response was that I would shoot him on sight, as he would merely be one more mouth to feed, without adding any security to my situation. The rest of dinner went rather quietly.........

Laws regarding the use and possession of narcotics are what I was referring to.
