Two hours of that, a six pack of beer and I would die a happy man.

Oh, I forgot that we had foreigners here. Neighbors was the springboard. Christ, in England there is only one act that has sold more records than Kylie. Madonna? Nope. The Beatles? Nope. Elvis.
Yet here, almost no one has even heard of her. Unbelievable. Just goes to show, in some ways we live in a vacuum. The last time I saw her in London she sold out a 14,000 seat arena...seven nights in a row. The tour needed 18 big rigs to move itself. Getting tickets was a nightmare.

9 days to go.

Old enough to know better.
But not too old to have fun.
I saw one lady who must have been 80. She was with what looked like her daughter.
I'd wager that my recent nights have been better than yours. Phucking awesome shows even it is pop. And the FOX is a killer. The cieling alone is worth the price of admission. The first night I was up in the balcony but the second night I was on the floor. It's a stepped floor so I was on the first step, above everyone else in front, directly in the middle, only 50 feet from the stage, and directly under the confetti drop and a whole slew of lazers buzzing overhead. Damn, now I'm thinking of driving to LA for that show. Life is way too short.

Yeah, kinda kidding. My best friend/best man lives there so it was going to be a two birds thing.
But went to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass fest instead. That is a festival that is ruined by it's own success - way too many people - because it's free, in Golden Gate Park. The last time I went to HSB was about six years ago. This time something was quite different. Marijuana. I'll be darned but I think this state has undergone a paradigm shift in attitudes about pot. Six years ago I didn't see any. This time it was common. There were people carrying around bongs. There were brownies and cookies for sale. No big deal. And why should it be?
Then we went by the Love Fest downtown. A giant outdoor rave, with lots of scantily clad girls. And lots of great rhythms.
Friday may go see Stanley Clarke at a new SF jazz club. The godfather of electric bass. For 30+ years there are none better. Stanley will blow you away.

Saw Stanley years ago perform with Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Zigaboo Modeliste and Bobby Keys do an "undercover" show in the City as The New Barbarians, They (and He) ROCKED! All within a month that year I saw John Bonham (with the mighty Led Zeppelin), Buddy Rich and his orchestra, and Tony Williams all play live, and within a few montha ALL were dead! Not a good years for drummers.......

PS. 51, I thought it was a condition of yer parole not to be within 200 ft. of girls (or boys) under 13.......

The New Barbarians? Shit, that's a blast from the past. I totally forgot about them. If I remember right they were nothing special but I could see how that would be a killer show.
Tony Williams? Are you sure it wasn't Andy Williams? Isn't that your generation?
P.S. If I'm within 200' of girls I wear mirrors...and a boner.

Speaking of "blasts from the past" we (wife & I) were in Mill Valley a few months back, and walking past a small club, I noticed that "Mick Taylor Band" playing that night. I walked in (door open, but club closed still) and asked the bartender if it was "that" Mick Taylor, he didn't know who he was, but handed me a poster....IT WAS! We had a meal, walked back a few hours later (early evening) to find ourselves walking in the same time the band was! Needless to say, killer evening, killer band, lots-o-Stones licks. And the best part was there were only 30 people or so there! (one of the benifits of living in the Bay Area is the music scene... )
Cheers!

Was that at Sweetwater?
Many big name acts have shown up there to perform - sometimes unanounced. I even think the Stones have played there but I could be wrong about that. It's a small club - right in the heart of liberal heaven. So what were you doing there?
Have you been to the top of Mt. Tam?
Remember that song sung by kids?
"Talking 'bout Mill Valley, Mill Valley California"
Now that's going way back. You'd probably have to be a native to remember that one.
By the way, I looked up Mick Taylor and he's poor. He thinks the Stones have jipped him out of royalties and he's thinking about suing. I know one of the guitarists for Quiet Riot and he's another down-and-out guy. Rock and Roll is hard, but the stories they have to tell. They all seem to know that they are lucky to still be alive.

No it was "24 Broadway" even smaller (1/4 the size) than The Sweetwater. A few years ago at Sweetwater some redhead kept stepping on my foot at the bar, I finally tapped her on the shoulder to ask her to chill, and when she turned around it was Bonnie Rait, she appologised and picked up our tab. Been to Mt. Tam about 5,000 times......try to do the "Sunday Morning Ride" several times a year, like to hike up there and used to "outlaw" hang glide up there till threatened with a "next time we lock you up and destroy yer toy" lecture....The "Mill Valley" song, yeah, I remember (barely!) it was like 30 years ago, it was a teacher and her class singing it, the wife STILL sings it when we roll thru town. If yer a Stones fan (who isn't?) a few years ago prior to their last tour, they we're rehearsing in S.F. for a month or so, one weeknight I stopped by Eli's Orbit Room (a blues dive in downtown Oakland to get a blues fix, after a few hours I needed to split (midnight on a work night........) so I get up to go, and who walks in this dive? KEITH RICHARDS!!!!! He was just dropping in to check the place out, NOBODY recognized him and his entourage ('cept me) I approached him, thanked him for providing the soundtrack to my life, and he graciously set me up with a round (which I gladly accepted) stuck around for awhile and split (no playin' that night ) Yeah, ya never know who you'll run into 'round these parts!

Cool. Keef...the pirate, old leatherhide.
See, he's a good example of a great guitarist who can't really play very well. I mean, his genius is his creativity, his licks, not his technique. What you play is way more important than how you play.
I've honestly never heard a blues song I didn't like. I'd hook you up for a night of hearing loss if I had more time and we were closer but practically every day is filled with something it seems. Besides, I'm not the friendly type. I'd just as soon be alone in the woods. Nothing personal - take care and stay safe.

Kinda like George Thorogood........."I drink alone"..................(just me an' my friend Johnny Walker, and my bud, Weiser)
-Rocky-
PS. My personal "living" favorite is Mr. Buddy Guy, taught Jimi everything he did. Have you ever checked out Eric Sardinias? If yer into "slide" he's the new master............

Will definitely check out Eric. Buddy I've passed on about a dozen times. Maybe next time. Jimi is the man. I used to know about six of his songs including solos but I put down the instrument for about 17 years and forgot most of what I knew. If you ever, ever hear of a man named Carvin Jones go see him. He is a tall, skiny, black guy from Arizona who plays a lot of Hendrix. I'm telling you this guy is amazing. I saw him in a smoky club in Pheonix. He walks around the room and talks to people while playing. What a show! Another phenominal, probably the best, Jimi impersonator is Randy Hanson. He's white and right handed but has got it down pat. George is another rocker with soul. Good taste...even if you are a cockflea.
