I'm a Belgian guy myself, a blue or red Chimay, a few local favorites are Hairy Eyeball (a malty strong ale @ 8.7%) and Brown Shugga, another strong (9.9%) ale from Lagunitas brewery in Petaluma, Ca. Started out as a teenager drinking Guinness because no one would bum a beer off you at a party if you had Guinness! Developed a taste for the fuller flavor brews. A local brewery/alehouse E.J.Phairs always has a great selection of Belgians to keep me busy.

That's my vote, along with the Light variety. Too bad we can't buy it in these parts.

I grew up on this shit! The brewery was down the road from my hometown so cases were like 5 bucks. It has really gotten popular in the past 5 years which is great cuz it's a great beer.

I've drank Genny a few times, but we were pretty loyal to the Pa brews. Rolling Rock if it was payday and Yuengling all the other days. When things got really tight, a few friends had parents that worked @ the Stroh's bottling plant on Rt 22/78 in Pa so we could lift a 30pack without their parents knowing. After all, they got 30 packs for $2 a pop if u worked there. Talk about perks!

Have a friend who worked for Miller in Milwaukee who would keep us well lubricated with his low cost employee purchases.

A decent regional is New Glarus with one of the products a full body brew called Spotted Cow. Tasty and with a small orange slice in it a treat.

Otherwise for general purpose sit around buzzage it's Blatz. $9.99 for a 24 pack.

Its nice and all to list all the specialty stuff but Kokanee is my favourite every-day beer: Canadian strenght and brewed right out of Creston BC.

This thread is already veering close to Bruno territory with it's gourmet double cream with a twist tendencies.

If memory serves back when I drank, the only acceptable fruit is a lime wedge in a few choice Mexican beers such as Dos Equis.

I went through a phase soon after turning 21 where I tried everything I could. Back then there were few microbrews (much fewer than now anyway), and a sparse collection of exotic imports. After a year or so I found I gravitated toward a couple of mainstream beers I could buy anywhere and were very good. Namely: Guinness, Moosehead, and LaBatts Blue. If I found Negro Modello it was usually a choice as well. I also enjoyed Miller Genuine Draft. If I was broke, Natural Light or King Cobra. Or coke.

There are many mainstream products I never cared for: Red Stripe, Heineken, Fosters, Sam Adams, regular Budweiser, and Corona (w/o lime) being just a few.

Actually with all the Miller products I've gone through most of them such as MGD and so on, I'll always come back to the original High Life as it's an honest 'light' beer.

I won't touch Miller Lite on a bet. You can drink most beers warm and they taste ok. Try that with a Miller Lite and you'll hork.
