They steer heavy? My old FJ was heavy on the stearing but the VTR I disagree. Obviously depends what you are use to.

FBI Agent: Sir, we discovered you were born Nathan Huffheins.
Nathan Arizona Sr.: Yeah, I changed my name. What of it?
FBI Agent: Can you give us an indication why?
Nathan Arizona Sr.: Would you shop at a store called Unpainted Huffheins?

what kind of shape was the front tire in? Air pressure? If the bike had been sitting a while, I guarantee it was low.

First bike I owned was a VTR. Comparing it to my RC, I'd say it was about on par. the 180/55 rear might be the reason, but I felt like it was quick handling and the most planted bike in turns. I had more confidence trail braking on my VTR than I do on my RC. It's one of the better handling bikes out of the crate IMHO.

I had one too, and miss it as well! Someday, I will add another one. IMHO, one of the best buys out there!

I had a nice '04, some mods on it... was a major blast!! Quick, and flickable to me.
Was going to be a weekend track day bike... but from some here know, was stolen and gutted.

Shim the upper rear shock mounting bolt 5mm.
It will quicken the steering.
Dropping the forks in the triple tree may result in front pipe scraping in hard right turns.
